About the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X75

The AirTAC BSAI100X75 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring an integrated spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the piston rod at any point along its 75 mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 5500 N. Operating at 0.15-0.7 MPa, it generates a practical maximum thrust of 5497 N. You must size the clamp's 5500 N holding capacity against your static load, as this is a distinct quantity from the cylinder's 5497 N thrust.

This enclasp mechanism engages bidirectionally, locking the rod whether it was extending or retracting. It requires a third G1/8 unlock port to release the grip once pressures are balanced. Remember that the variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near stroke ends; the clamp is the sole device holding the load. Without a magnet specified, this unit does not support CMSE or DMSE sensors.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

5500 N
static holding force (Ø100 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Push/pull as tabulated. Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (5500 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X75 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Prevents heavy vertical platens from dropping under power loss, securing the load at any point along the 75 mm travel.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Immobilizes a workpiece mid-stroke during drilling or milling, ensuring vibration-free clamping for high-accuracy operations.

shield

Safety Emergency Stop

Holds a barrier or guard in place during an unexpected air pressure drop until the system is safely reset.

Is the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X75 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 100 mm bore model when a load requires substantial mid-stroke immobilization that a plain SAI cannot provide, or when a SAIL stroke-end lock is insufficient. If you need less force, the 80 mm bore offers 3518 N thrust at 0.7 MPa and a 3600 N hold, making the 100 mm bore ideal for heavier fixtures. The 25 mm rod and M20x1.5 thread handle high side loads well, though any stroke over 300 mm still needs an external guide.

Ensure the cylinder has fully stopped before applying the clamp, as it cannot brake a moving rod. Unlock only with balanced piston pressures to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly. For human-safety-critical applications, add an independent safety measure. This single-rod PT-threaded variant accepts Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load
  • ✓ Balanced-pressure unlock circuit
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI100X75 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 5500 N. It locks the rod at any stroke position bidirectionally, but only engages after the cylinder has stopped moving.

The clamp must be released by applying air to the G1/8 enclasp port only after the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. Releasing it with unbalanced pressure can cause the rod to jump abruptly.
