The BSAI125X500-S is preferred over a SAIL model because it locks at any intermediate stroke position, whereas SAIL only holds at the stroke end. If you only need movement without position holding, a plain SAI cylinder suffices. Note that the clamp locks only after the rod has completely stopped; it cannot brake a moving load, and unlocking requires balanced piston pressures to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly.

For replacements, match the single-rod configuration, 125 mm bore, 500 mm stroke, and PT tapered ports. The 1/2 inch cylinder port and M27x2 rod thread provide excellent side-load resistance, but at 500 mm stroke, an external guide is recommended for heavy loads.
