About the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI125X75

The AirTAC BSAI125X75 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a built-in clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper clamps the 32 mm carbon steel rod, providing a static holding force of 8600 N at any position along its 75 mm stroke. The cylinder delivers a practical maximum push thrust of 8590 N at 0.7 MPa. It is crucial to understand that the holding force and thrust are distinct quantities; you must size the clamp's 8600 N capacity against your static load, not the 8590 N push thrust.

This enclasp mechanism locks bidirectionally once the piston has stopped, meaning it cannot brake a moving rod. The clamp operates via a separate G1/8 enclasp port and requires 0.15-0.7 MPa operating pressure. Furthermore, the lock only releases when air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced; otherwise, the rod may jump abruptly upon release. The variable air cushion at stroke ends only decelerates the piston and does not contribute to holding the load.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

8600 N
static holding force (Ø125 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Where the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI125X75 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Suspends heavy vertical loads at any intermediate stroke position using the 8600 N static clamp force, preventing gravity-driven drops during cycle pauses.

shield

Power Loss Emergency Hold

The spring-applied clamp engages automatically upon air loss, securing the 8590 N thrust load exactly where it stopped without drifting.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Locks the rigid 32 mm rod firmly in place to withstand heavy machining forces or part inspection without relying on live air pressure.

Is the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI125X75 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 125 mm bore model when an application requires immense push thrust (8590 N at 0.7 MPa) combined with heavy intermediate position holding. If the 8600 N holding force exceeds your load requirements, consider stepping down to the 80 mm bore, which offers 3518 N thrust and 3600 N holding force. Select this BSAI clamp-lock over a SAIL model when you need to hold the load at any point in the stroke, rather than just at the end. If intermediate holding is unnecessary, a plain SAI cylinder suffices.

For replacement, verify the single-rod configuration, 125 mm bore, 75 mm stroke, and PT tapered ports. The cylinder port is 1/2 inch, and the enclasp port is G1/8. Mounting options include Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. Since this is a non-magnet model, position sensing is not possible without a -S variant. The 32 mm rod and M27x2 thread provide high side-load capacity. Always ensure the cylinder has stopped before applying the clamp, and add independent safety measures for human-safety-critical holds.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load
  • ✓ Balanced-pressure unlock circuit

Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI125X75 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 8600 N. It locks at any position along the 75 mm stroke bidirectionally, but only after the cylinder has come to a complete stop.

The clamp is released by supplying air to the G1/8 enclasp port, but only after the air pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced. If pressures are unbalanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon release.
