The AirTAC BSAI125X80 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock mechanism. It provides a static holding force of 8600 N at any position along its 80 mm stroke. Delivering 6136 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa, it handles heavy loads. Remember that holding force and thrust are distinct quantities; you must size the 8600 N clamp capacity against your static load, not the cylinder push force.

This enclasp unit uses a third G1/8 port to release the bidirectional lock. Note that the clamp only engages after the rod stops, meaning it cannot brake a moving load. Furthermore, the lock must be released with balanced air pressures to prevent abrupt rod movement. The variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke end and does not contribute to holding the load.

Is the Airtac BSAI Locking Clamp Cylinder BSAI125X80 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 125 mm bore if your static load requires up to 8600 N of holding capacity. If your application only needs end-of-stroke holding, a plain SAI or SAIL cylinder is sufficient, but BSAI is required for mid-stroke positioning. If your load is lighter, stepping down to a 100 mm bore provides 5500 N of holding force and 3927 N of thrust at 0.5 MPa.

For safe operation, ensure the rod has stopped before clamping and balance pressures before unlocking. This single-rod PT-port cylinder accepts Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts.
