The AirTAC Airtac CMSG Reed Switch Sensor CMSG-030 is a genuine CMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 5-240 V AC/DC with a 3 m flying lead. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
This is the general-type CMSG-030, a reed magnetic position switch from AirTAC. The reed element is a sealed mechanical contact that snaps closed when the magnet built into the cylinder piston reaches the switch position - no electronics, no amplifier, just a contact. Output is 2-wire for series wiring, the operating supply spans 5-240 V AC or DC with no polarity, protection is IP64, and the unit arrives with a 3 m flying lead ready to cut back to length.
A practical point: at 5 V DC low-voltage levels a reed contact needs no load-wiring fuss, while at 240 V AC it slots directly into older relay control panels - one switch covering both worlds. The G profile is the mounting-fit code and must correspond to the sensor groove of your cylinder; confirm the pairing with your cylinder model. The switch reads nothing by itself, so the cylinder must be ordered with the magnet option fitted.

A reed contact switches a wide window, 5-240 V AC or DC, which is why it suits AC circuits and relay logic. IP64. The CMS range has no RW / IP68 option - that belongs to DMS and EMS. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

| G | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| 030 | 3 m flying lead. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |
| (blank) | Standard version. On a CMS the suffix -H is the high-temperature version — do not confuse it with the H profile letter. |
We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

Detects full extension of the diverter cylinder on a parcel-sort conveyor, its 2-wire contact feeding a legacy 230 V AC relay panel without interface modules.
Confirms mould closure on a block-making press where the dusty plant environment and simple AC control wiring favor a sealed mechanical reed contact.
Tracks arm position on automatic car-wash gantries, with the 3 m lead routed back to a washdown-rated control cabinet outside the wet zone.
Pick CMSG-030 if your control circuit is AC, mixed AC/DC, or a wide DC window, and you want the simplest possible position feedback: a two-wire contact in series with the load. It is the general-type CMS - if the location is hot, step up to the -H variant. For a DC PLC input where bounce and contact wear matter, an electronic DMS or EMS is the better match. The 3 m lead suits control boxes mounted a short run from the cylinder; longer runs use the 5 m or 10 m versions or a connector type. Match the G profile to the cylinder groove, and confirm the piston magnet is fitted.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
It is a reed position switch with a 2-wire contact output, rated for 5-240 V AC or DC supply with no polarity, IP64 protected, and terminated in a 3 m flying lead. It is the general (non-high-temperature) type of the CMS family.
The CMS reed contact wires in series like a mechanical limit switch, accepts AC or DC across 5-240 V, and draws no standby electronics - ideal for relay panels and mixed-voltage machines. An electronic DMS/EMS switch is DC-only and solid-state, with faster bounce-free cycling for PLC counting. Whichever you choose, the G profile must fit your cylinder's sensor groove and the cylinder must have the built-in magnet.
