The AirTAC Airtac CMSG Reed Switch Sensor CMSG-100 is a genuine CMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 5-240 V AC/DC with a 10 m flying lead. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
This CMSG-100 is AirTAC's general-purpose reed switch for cylinder position feedback. A magnetic reed contact opens or closes when the piston magnet passes it, the output is 2-wire, and the wide 5-240 V AC/DC range lets one part number serve 24 V DC control panels and 110/220 V AC circuits alike. It mounts in the sensor groove of a magnet-equipped AirTAC cylinder and leaves on a 10 m flying lead at IP64.
The long lead is the practical story here: 10 m reaches a remote cabinet or a machine across the cell, so you avoid joints and splices in the cable run. As a reed device it has a mechanical contact - robust and polarity-free, yet with finite life and possible bounce, which matters in high-cycle counting. Confirm that profile G matches your cylinder's groove; the letter is a fit code, not a grade.

A reed contact switches a wide window, 5-240 V AC or DC, which is why it suits AC circuits and relay logic. IP64. The CMS range has no RW / IP68 option - that belongs to DMS and EMS. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.
| CMS | Reed switch cylinder sensor — reed (magnetic contact). |

| G | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| 100 | 10 m flying lead. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |
| (blank) | Standard version. On a CMS the suffix -H is the high-temperature version — do not confuse it with the H profile letter. |
We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

A bottling plant reads the stop-gate cylinders at the far end of a long conveyor run; the 10 m lead carries the signal most of the way to the panel without splicing.
Home position on a palletizer's push arm feeds a stack counter through a 24 V DC input, wired in series exactly like a plain mechanical contact.
Eight stations on a transfer press each report end-of-stroke; one AC/DC reed code covers both the 24 V DC PLC inputs and the 230 V AC indicator lamps.
Use a CMS when the supply is AC or when you simply want a dry-contact style signal without worrying about NPN versus PNP polarity. Pick an electronic DMS instead if the input is a fast PLC counter or you need solid-state life. Between lead lengths, the 10 m flying lead suits long fixed runs; choose an M8 or M12 connector code when sensors get swapped during maintenance. The piston must carry the factory magnet option, and profile G must agree with the groove on your cylinder - we can check both from the datasheet.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
Reed switch type with a 2-wire mechanical contact, 5-240 V AC or DC supply, IP64 enclosure and a 10 m flying lead. There is no NPN or PNP variant in the CMS family - polarity does not apply to this contact.
Reed (CMS) suits AC supplies, voltages above 28 V DC, and simple series wiring, but the mechanical contact has finite life and can bounce. An electronic DMS is solid-state, DC only at 10-28 V (2-wire) or 5-30 V (3-wire NPN/PNP), and handles rapid cycling cleanly. Match the choice to your circuit.
