The AirTAC Airtac CMSH Reed Sensor CMSH-020-H is a genuine CMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 5-240 V AC/DC with a 2 m flying lead. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
The CMSH-020-H is the high-temperature version of the H-profile reed switch. Its 2-wire mechanical reed contact reads the piston magnet of a magnet-equipped AirTAC cylinder, runs on a broad 5-240 V AC/DC supply with no polarity, and the enclosure rating remains IP64. Wiring is a 2 m flying lead you route and trim to suit the machine.
Two H letters appear in this code and they mean different things: the first sets the groove-fit profile, while the trailing -H marks the high-temperature construction intended for hot zones - think oven lines, hot presses or areas near curing ovens where a standard switch's materials would suffer. Still, this is a reed contact with a finite life; if your duty involves relentless high-rate cycling in the heat, discuss an electronic alternative with us. Verify the H profile against your cylinder's sensor groove before ordering.

A reed contact switches a wide window, 5-240 V AC or DC, which is why it suits AC circuits and relay logic. IP64. The CMS range has no RW / IP68 option - that belongs to DMS and EMS. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.
| CMS | Reed switch cylinder sensor — reed (magnetic contact). |
|---|---|
| H | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| 020 | 2 m flying lead. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |
| H | High-temperature version. On a CMS the suffix -H is the high-temperature version — do not confuse it with the H profile letter. |
We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.
| This switch | CMSH · 2-wire · 5-240 V AC/DC |
|---|---|
| Consider DMS | the solid-state range with NPN / PNP 3-wire outputs (DC only) |
| Consider EMS | the mini 2-wire solid-state switch (DC only) |
| Mounting parts | F-MQ (round body), F-ACT (tie-rod) |
Prove the door cylinder of a tunnel oven is fully retracted before the conveyor advances, with the switch mounted close to the hot enclosure.
Detect full closure of the press cylinders on a veneer hot press, where radiant heat rules out a general-type sensor body.
Confirm part clamping inside a composites curing line, keeping the -H switch in the elevated-temperature zone while the panel wiring stays cool.
Reach for the -H suffix only when ambient or radiant heat would attack a general-type switch; elsewhere the plain CMSH-020 does the same electrical job for less. The reed format still suits AC circuits and series-wired loads, while PLC-driven, high-frequency duties belong with electronic DMS/EMS switches - and only their -RW variants achieve IP68 for washdown. Heat, washdown and cycling are three different problems with three different answers; tell us which you face. As always, the cylinder needs the magnet option and the profile must seat in its groove.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
Electrically it matches the standard model: reed contact type, 2-wire output, 5-240 V AC/DC supply, IP64 protection and a 2 m flying lead. The -H suffix changes the construction to the high-temperature version for hot zones, not the electrical format. Exact temperature limits are not in our data - confirm them from the datasheet.
No. High temperature and waterproofing are separate options in the AirTAC range. Only DMS and EMS switches carrying the -RW suffix reach IP68 with oil- and flex-resistant construction; every CMS, including this -H unit, stays at IP64.
