The AirTAC Airtac CMSH Reed Sensor CMSH-050 is a genuine CMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 5-240 V AC/DC with a 5 m flying lead. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
This CMSH-050 reads the piston magnet of an AirTAC cylinder and closes a 2-wire reed contact. The mechanical element switches anything from 5-240 V, AC or DC alike, with no polarity to observe. A 5 m flying lead gives slack for routing along long frames; the general-type housing is sealed to IP64.
Five metres of lead covers long machine spans and cable trays - trim the excess to length and land it straight on the terminal block, with no connector to source. The H in the code is the mounting profile: it must match the groove on your cylinder body, so confirm the fit for your series with us before ordering.

A reed contact switches a wide window, 5-240 V AC or DC, which is why it suits AC circuits and relay logic. IP64. The CMS range has no RW / IP68 option - that belongs to DMS and EMS. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

| H | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| 050 | 5 m flying lead. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |
| (blank) | Standard version. On a CMS the suffix -H is the high-temperature version — do not confuse it with the H profile letter. |
We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.
| This switch | CMSH · 2-wire · 5-240 V AC/DC |
|---|---|
| Consider DMS | the solid-state range with NPN / PNP 3-wire outputs (DC only) |
| Consider EMS | the mini 2-wire solid-state switch (DC only) |
| Mounting parts | F-MQ (round body), F-ACT (tie-rod) |
A diverting gate cylinder on a long conveyor line reports open or closed; the 5 m lead reaches the panel without any splice.
On a palletizer, the push cylinder must fully retract before the next layer lands; the switch feeds that proof straight to the controller.
Along an elevated tray run, the extra five metres lets the switch stay on the far end of the machine while one drop feeds the panel.
Decide between families by circuit first: a reed CMSH switches AC or DC in series with the load, while a DMS or EMS electronic switch is DC-only solid-state. If the run is long or the switch sits deep inside a frame, this 5 m flying lead saves a junction box; on machines serviced often, an M8 or M12 connector build unplugs faster. This is the general type; take -H if the spot runs hot. The H profile must match the groove of a magnet-equipped AirTAC cylinder.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
Reed-type position switch, 2-wire mechanical contact, 5-240 V AC/DC supply, IP64 housing, 5 m flying lead. No polarity to observe, and it works on AC or DC alike. For exact switching current and electrical life figures, confirm from the datasheet.
A flying lead is cut to length and landed directly on terminals, with nothing extra to buy or fail. An M8 or M12 connector build costs a little more but lets technicians unplug the switch during service. Whichever you choose, the H profile must fit the cylinder groove and the piston must carry the magnet.
