The AirTAC Airtac CMSH Reed Sensor CMSH-C12 is a genuine CMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 5-240 V AC/DC. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
AirTAC's CMSH-C12 is a magnetic reed switch that reports piston position on cylinders carrying the factory magnet option. The contact is 2-wire and the supply window is wide - 5-240 V AC/DC - so the same part serves relay logic and low-voltage DC controls alike. The C12 connection code is an undocumented factory variant; we will confirm its detail from the datasheet on request. Standard protection is IP64.
Inside is a mechanical reed, so there is no polarity and no driver electronics to damage - just a contact that closes when the magnet passes. The H profile letter sets which cylinder groove the switch seats in; it is a fit code only, and the correct letter depends on your cylinder body, so check before ordering.

A reed contact switches a wide window, 5-240 V AC or DC, which is why it suits AC circuits and relay logic. IP64. The CMS range has no RW / IP68 option - that belongs to DMS and EMS. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

| H | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| 12 | See datasheet. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |
| (blank) | Standard version. On a CMS the suffix -H is the high-temperature version — do not confuse it with the H profile letter. |
We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.
| This switch | CMSH · 2-wire · 5-240 V AC/DC |

| Consider DMS | the solid-state range with NPN / PNP 3-wire outputs (DC only) |
| Consider EMS | the mini 2-wire solid-state switch (DC only) |
| Mounting parts | F-MQ (round body), F-ACT (tie-rod) |
Fixture cylinders on a machining centre signal clamped position to a DC input card; the reed contact switches straight into the existing 24 V DC loop.
Sliding gate cylinders on a construction-materials handling rig confirm end positions to a 230 V AC relay panel.
Compact test-rig cylinders report stroke endpoints where a simple dry contact is preferred over powered electronics.
Choose this model when you want simple reed behaviour - mechanical contact, AC or DC, 5-240 V, no NPN/PNP decision - and the C12 connection code matches what your machine already uses; we will clarify that code from the datasheet. For a cleaner PLC signal at DC, a DMS 3-wire NPN or PNP switch is the alternative. Whatever you pick, the profile must match the cylinder groove and the cylinder must have the magnet option.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
It is a reed switch with a 2-wire contact, rated for 5-240 V AC/DC, IP64 protected. Its wiring position carries the C12 connection code - a factory variant we will clarify from the datasheet. It only works on a cylinder with the built-in magnet.
Not here - in this code the H sits in the profile position, so it selects the groove fit for your cylinder, and the right letter depends on the cylinder series. A dedicated high-temperature CMS version exists under the separate H special code; ask us if your application runs hot.
