The AirTAC Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-050-W is a genuine DMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 10-28 V DC with a 5 m flying lead. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
This DMSE-050-W is the standard E-profile 2-wire electronic switch with a trailing -W special code. The switch reads the piston magnet of an AirTAC cylinder carrying the built-in magnet option, runs on 10-28 V DC and uses a 5 m flying lead. Housing protection remains IP64. AirTAC has not published what -W denotes in the code we hold, so we treat it as a factory variant and will confirm the exact feature from the datasheet on request.
Electrically it still behaves as the familiar 2-wire solid-state unit: the signal path closes when the magnetised piston reaches the switch, and the circuit sees it much like a sealed contact. Do not assume -W carries the IP68 sealing of the -RW option - if washdown or oil mist is your concern, ask us about the RW version too. Match the E profile to your cylinder's groove before you buy.

2-wire versions run 10-28 V DC; NPN / PNP 3-wire versions run 5-30 V DC. IP64 as standard. Order the RW version where coolant, washdown or constant cable flexing is present. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

| E | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| (blank) | Output: 2-wire. Blank is 2-wire, N is NPN 3-wire, P is PNP 3-wire. |
| 050 | 5 m flying lead. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |

We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

| Consider EMS | the mini 2-wire electronic switch for tight installations |
| Consider CMS | the reed alternative for AC circuits and voltages up to 240 V |
| Mounting parts | F-MQ (round body), F-ACT (tie-rod) |
Mounted in the groove of a magnet-fitted transfer cylinder, the switch flags full carriage extension to the line PLC. The 5 m lead spans the distance to the local I/O box.
A sliding tool holder on a special-purpose machine proves retracted position through this switch before the next cycle step is released, wired in series at 10-28 V DC.
Lift cylinders on a modular assembly station each carry a DMSE-050-W, giving the cell controller discrete up/down confirmation over short cable runs cut from the 5 m lead.
Order this part number only when your build sheet literally specifies -W; otherwise the plain DMSE-050 is the documented general type. The electrical core is unchanged: 2-wire connection, 10-28 V DC, 5 m lead. For harsh wet or oily locations the -RW variant is the version with published IP68 waterproof, oil-resistant and flex-resistant sealing. As with every DMS switch, a magnet-equipped cylinder is required and the profile letter must agree with that cylinder's sensor groove.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
The -W position of the ordering code is a factory variant that is not explained in the catalogue data we hold. We keep the protection rating at the general IP64 value and will confirm precisely what -W adds from the datasheet if you send us an enquiry.
Not on the strength of the -W code alone. For washdown, splashing coolant or oil mist, the documented choice is the -RW version of the DMS family, which lifts sealing to IP68 with waterproof, oil-resistant and flex-resistant construction. Tell us your environment and we will quote the right option.
