The AirTAC Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-C12 is a genuine DMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a 2-wire output on 10-28 V DC. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
The DMSE-C12 belongs to AirTAC's DMS family of solid-state electronic position switches. It clips into the groove of a magnet-fitted AirTAC cylinder and reports piston position electrically - on its own it senses nothing. This code reads as the E profile, a 2-wire output, and the connection token C12 at the wiring position. That token is a factory variant AirTAC has not documented publicly; we read its definition straight from the datasheet once you enquire. Supply is 10-28 V DC with IP64 protection on the general type.
Solid-state switching means no mechanical contact to chatter or wear out, so the switch tolerates frequent duty cycles better than a reed alternative. Note that the E profile is a fit code: it has to sit correctly in your cylinder's sensor groove, so check the profile letter against your cylinder model before you order.

2-wire versions run 10-28 V DC; NPN / PNP 3-wire versions run 5-30 V DC. IP64 as standard. Order the RW version where coolant, washdown or constant cable flexing is present. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

Signals full clamp closure on pneumatic fixtures in a machining cell, wired in series into a 24 V DC interlock loop.
End-of-stroke feedback inside tightly packed actuator modules, where a series-wired 2-wire switch keeps the wiring count down.
Confines gate cylinders on a parcel sorter to their retracted position so diverters fire only when the lane is clear.
Decide by circuit first. This is the 2-wire version: it wires in series like a conventional contact, which keeps panel work simple. If your controller prefers a dedicated signal wire, look at the DMSE-N or DMSE-P 3-wire types instead. The C12 wiring entry is a code position we cannot decode from published data - quote it exactly as printed and we will pull its definition from the datasheet. The E profile must match the sensor groove of your cylinder, and that cylinder needs the built-in magnet option for anything to be detected.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
It is a solid-state electronic position switch with a 2-wire output, supplied from 10-28 V DC and rated IP64 in the general build. The wiring code C12 is a factory connection variant that is not described in our published data; we verify its meaning in the datasheet when you enquire.
Yes, two things. The cylinder must be ordered with the built-in magnet option, and the switch's E profile has to match the sensor groove on that cylinder so it seats correctly. Without the magnet piston the switch has nothing to detect.
