The AirTAC Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-N020 is a genuine DMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a npn 3-wire output on 5-30 V DC with a 2 m flying lead. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.
This DMSE-N020 is an electronic, solid-state AirTAC position switch in the DMS series. The N in the code fixes an NPN 3-wire output, the 020 is a 2 m flying lead, and the general build carries IP64. It runs from a 5-30 V DC supply and signals the position of the piston magnet inside a magnet-equipped AirTAC cylinder - alone it does nothing.
A 3-wire NPN output sinks current to the common line and hands the PLC input a clean, unambiguous signal, avoiding the small leakage that a series-wired 2-wire loop introduces. Fit requires the E profile to match your cylinder's sensor groove; send the cylinder series with your enquiry and we will verify the pairing.

2-wire versions run 10-28 V DC; NPN / PNP 3-wire versions run 5-30 V DC. IP64 as standard. Order the RW version where coolant, washdown or constant cable flexing is present. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

| E | Profile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade. |
| N | Output: NPN 3-wire. Blank is 2-wire, N is NPN 3-wire, P is PNP 3-wire. |
| 020 | 2 m flying lead. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions. |

We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.
The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

Picking between NPN and PNP comes down to your input card: NPN switches pull the input low (sinking) and are the usual choice on PLCs designed to Japanese wiring practice, while PNP sources the input high and dominates in European panels. With a flying lead you pay only for copper and can cut it to length; choose an M8 or M12 connector version if you want to unplug the sensor during maintenance. A 2-wire DMSE is simpler to install, but this 3-wire output gives the PLC a sharper, polarity-defined signal. Profile E has to match the cylinder groove, and the cylinder must carry the magnet option.
Quick checklist
Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.
Type: electronic, solid-state. Output: NPN 3-wire. Supply: 5-30 V DC. Protection: IP64 for the general type. Wiring: a 2 m flying lead, which you can trim to suit the run back to your panel.
NPN suits a sinking PLC input - common on Japanese-style panels - while PNP sources a European-style input; the two are not interchangeable. A 2-wire DMSE wires in series like a mechanical contact and is simpler, but a 3-wire output gives the PLC input a cleaner, polarity-defined signal. Check the E profile against your cylinder's groove before ordering.
