Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-NC08

The AirTAC Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-NC08 is a genuine DMS magnetic position switch. It senses the magnet ring in a pneumatic cylinder's piston and signals when the piston reaches that point, giving a npn 3-wire output on 5-30 V DC. It only works on a cylinder that carries a piston magnet.

About the Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-NC08

The DMSE-NC08 is a solid-state magnetic position switch from AirTAC's DMS electronic range. The N code letter sets an NPN 3-wire output, and the E-profile body clips into the sensor groove of a magnet-equipped AirTAC cylinder to report piston position. Supply is 5-30 V DC and the standard housing carries an IP64 rating. The C08 token in the wiring position is a factory connection code that our catalogue does not decode; we will confirm the exact termination from the datasheet on request.

Because this is a 3-wire design, the supply pair and the signal lead are separate: the sensor sinks a clean logic level into the PLC input rather than passing its small leakage current through the load, as a series 2-wire loop does. That difference shows up on machines where many cylinder positions are scanned in quick succession. Profile E is a fit code, not a performance grade - it must match the groove machined into the cylinder body, so send the cylinder series with your RFQ for verification. Without the factory magnet option on the piston, the switch senses nothing.

2-wire versions run 10-28 V DC; NPN / PNP 3-wire versions run 5-30 V DC. IP64 as standard. Order the RW version where coolant, washdown or constant cable flexing is present. Switching distance, response time, current rating, voltage drop, LED behaviour, contact life, weight and dimensions are not published in our data set — ask us and we will confirm from the factory datasheet.

EProfile letter: the mounting / groove type that fits a particular cylinder body. This family offers E, G, H, J. It is a fit code, not a performance grade.
NOutput: NPN 3-wire. Blank is 2-wire, N is NPN 3-wire, P is PNP 3-wire.
08See datasheet. 020 / 030 / 050 / 100 are 2 / 3 / 5 / 10 m flying leads; M08 and M12 are M8 / M12 connector versions.

We do not hold the full profile-to-cylinder-series table, so confirm the profile letter against your cylinder model before ordering — send us the cylinder part number and we will check the fit.

Which Family Do You Need?

  • DMSElectronic, 2-wire / NPN / PNP, DC
  • EMSMini electronic, 2-wire only, DC
  • CMSReed contact, 2-wire, 5-240 V AC/DC

The split is electrical, not quality. Solid-state DMS and EMS are DC-only and suit modern PLC inputs; the reed-based CMS switches a much wider window, so it is the one for AC circuits, relay logic and older panels. The RW (IP68) option exists on DMS and EMS only.

This switchDMSE · NPN 3-wire · 5-30 V DC
Consider EMSthe mini 2-wire electronic switch for tight installations
Consider CMSthe reed alternative for AC circuits and voltages up to 240 V
Mounting partsF-MQ (round body), F-ACT (tie-rod)

Where the Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-NC08 Is Used

settings_input_component

PLC sink inputs

Wired into the NPN input card of a packaging machine controller, it reports end-of-stroke on a glue-head cylinder so the dispenser only fires at full seat.

science

Test rig indexing

On an automated leak-test bench, the switch confirms each clamp cylinder has retracted before the pressure cycle is allowed to start.

Stamping press feed

Mounted along the return stroke of a press feed cylinder, it interlocks the next stamping cycle until the slide is fully home.

Is the Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-NC08 the Right Switch?

Choose this model when your input card sinks current and the controller sits on a 5-30 V DC rail; the NPN output hands a PLC a crisp on/off edge with no contact bounce to debounce. The C08 connection code is a variant our data does not spell out, so we read it from the datasheet before order confirmation - flag it early. If a washdown bay or moving cable track demands IP68 instead of IP64, the -RW build of the same electronic family is the alternative. The piston needs AirTAC's magnet option and the E-profile foot must suit the groove.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Cylinder has a piston magnet
  • ✓ Profile letter fits your cylinder groove
  • ✓ Output matches the PLC input (NPN 3-wire)
  • ✓ Supply rail is 5-30 V DC
  • ✓ Lead length or M8 / M12 connector
  • ✓ Coolant or flexing? Use the RW version

Installation & Wiring Notes

  • check The cylinder must carry a piston magnet — a plain cylinder cannot be sensed.
  • check Slide the switch along the groove to the stop position, then lock it.
  • check Keep the supply within 5-30 V DC.
  • check Wire npn 3-wire to match the PLC input's polarity.
  • check Keep the lead clear of moving parts; use the RW type where it must flex.
  • check Rated IP64 — protect it beyond that rating.

Use the F-MQ bracket on round-body cylinders and F-ACT on tie-rod cylinders where there is no groove to seat the switch. Both are ordered separately from the switch. Switching distance and mounting dimensions come from the factory datasheet — ask us for the sheet that matches your cylinder.

Airtac DMSE Electronic Sensor DMSE-NC08 FAQ

It is an electronic (solid-state) magnetic switch with an NPN 3-wire output, powered from 5-30 V DC and housed to IP64 in the general build. The wiring position carries the C08 connection code; our catalogue does not decode it, so the datasheet is the authority. It is not a reed contact, and the sinking output polarity must match your input card.

C08 sits where the ordering code normally shows a flying-lead length or an M8/M12 connector. Its meaning is not published in our data, so we verify it from the datasheet rather than guess at a termination type. If you need a defined plug-in option, the -NM08 build of this body uses an M8 connector with a 0.5 m lead. Profile E must still match your cylinder groove, and the piston must be ordered with the magnet option.
