The AirTAC Airtac MGC Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MGC40X25S is a genuine double acting + cushion JIS-standard round-body mini air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 25mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a SUS304 stainless-steel barrel with a hard-chrome-plated rod for reliable, mildly corrosion-resistant service.
The AirTAC MGC40X25S is a double acting, JIS-standard round-body mini cylinder with a 40 mm bore and a short 25 mm stroke, fitted with a variable air cushion at both ends. Unlike the bumper-type MG, this cushion is adjustable: turn the needle valve to dial in smooth deceleration near end of travel, so higher piston speeds or heavier moving loads stop without hammering the covers. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 628.3 N of push force, and the theoretical maximum at 1.0 MPa is 128.1 kgf.
Construction follows the MG family recipe: a SUS304 stainless barrel with covers and stainless block riveted and rolled into place, plus a hard-chrome plated 16 mm rod (20 um plating) running on a two-way piston seal that also stores lubricant. The magnet fitted under the -S code allows CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches to be mounted for position feedback. Ports are 1/8", the male rod thread is M14x1.5, and mounting is via FA flange or LB foot with I and Y rod knuckles available. Note that the cushion only decelerates the stroke end; it is not a lock, so use an external rod lock or pilot check valve if the load must be held on air loss.

The variable air cushion absorbs end-of-stroke energy at speeds up to 800 mm/s, letting a 628.3 N push at 0.5 MPa cycle a compact slide without cover hammering.
A short 25 mm stroke with adjustable deceleration is ideal for nudging cartons or blisters into a lane, with the -S magnet feeding CMSG or DMSG switch position signals to the PLC.
With 879.6 N of push at 0.7 MPa (about 89.7 kgf), the MGC40X25S handles light pressing, staking or insertion tasks where a cushioned stop protects the fixture.
At 40 mm bore this sits in the upper-middle of the MGC range: 628.3 N push at 0.5 MPa (about 64 kgf), so a sensible safe working load is roughly 38 kg on a horizontal push at 0.6 of the force figure, or around 32 kg for vertical lifting once halved. If you need more force, step up to the 50 mm bore (981.3 N push at 0.5 MPa); if less, the 32 mm bore gives 402.2 N. For 20 to 40 mm bores where end-of-stroke damping is not needed, the plain bumper MG is the lower-cost alternative, but only the cushioned MGC (and MGCD) is offered in 50 and 63 mm. This model ships with a magnet for CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensing; choose the no-S version if you do not need switches. Mount with the FA flange or LB foot and add I or Y rod knuckles where the coupling needs articulation. The 25 mm stroke is well within the 500 mm standard range, but remember this is a round-body mini cylinder: keep side loads off the rod on any longer stroke build.
Quick checklist
At 0.5 MPa the 40 mm bore gives 628.3 N push and 527.8 N pull; at 0.7 MPa it gives 879.6 N push and 738.9 N pull. The theoretical maximum force at 1.0 MPa is 128.1 kgf. Operating pressure spans 0.15 to 1.0 MPa (22 to 145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure.
The cushion is an adjustable air chamber at each stroke end: a needle valve meters the exhaust so the piston decelerates smoothly, which suits higher speeds and heavier moving loads than the fixed bumper MG. It only decelerates the stroke end, however; it is not a brake or lock, and the MGC does not hold position on air loss. For a held load, add an external rod lock or pilot check valve.
