The AirTAC Airtac MGC Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MGC40X320S is a genuine double acting + cushion JIS-standard round-body mini air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 320mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a SUS304 stainless-steel barrel with a hard-chrome-plated rod for reliable, mildly corrosion-resistant service.
The AirTAC MGC40X320S is a double acting, JIS-standard round-body mini cylinder with a 40 mm bore and a 320 mm stroke, built with a variable air cushion at both stroke ends. Unlike the fixed bumper pad on the plain MG, this adjustable cushion lets you tune the needle valve so the piston decelerates smoothly near each end of travel - a real advantage at higher piston speeds or with heavier moving loads, where an uncontrolled stop would hammer the covers. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 628.3 N push and 527.8 N pull, rising to 879.6 N push at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 128.1 kgf at 1.0 MPa.
Construction follows the MG family recipe: a SUS304 stainless barrel with covers and stainless block riveted and rolled onto it, plus a hard-chrome plated (20 um) 16 mm carbon-steel rod with an M14x1.5 male thread. The two-way piston seal also stores lubricant, and air ports are 1/8". The fitted magnet (the S in the code) allows CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches to be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), 30-800 mm/s, -20 to +70 C, on air filtered to 40 um. As a rule of thumb, keep vertical lifting loads to about 0.6 of the push force - roughly 38 kg for this cylinder.

Running at up to 800 mm/s, the variable air cushion decelerates the piston smoothly at each end, so the 628.3 N push force can divert or eject product without the covers taking a hammer blow every cycle.
With 879.6 N push at 0.7 MPa and adjustable end-of-stroke damping, the cylinder can clamp cartons or seat light fittings gently, while the -S magnet feeds a CMSG switch to confirm position to the PLC.
The 16 mm hard-chrome rod and cushioned stroke ends suit compact vertical lifts of around 38 kg safe working load, with the LB foot or FA flange mounting the body and an external check valve recommended to hold the load on air loss.
At 40 mm bore, the MGC40X320S sits in the middle of the MGC range: 628.3 N push at 0.5 MPa, roughly 64 kgf, so size actuators for about 38 kg safe vertical lift or use the full 879.6 N push at 0.7 MPa for horizontal moves. If you need more force, step up to the 50 mm bore (981.3 N push at 0.5 MPa); if this is more cylinder than the job needs, the 32 mm bore gives 402.2 N. For bores 20-40 there is also the bumper MG, the same JIS round-body package without the adjustable cushion - choose MGC when speed or moving mass makes end-of-stroke deceleration necessary. The 320 mm stroke is within the 500 mm standard range for this bore, so no made-to-order surcharge applies; strokes up to 800 mm are available on request. Mount with the FA flange or LB foot, add I or Y rod knuckles where the tooling needs a pivot, and remember the -S magnet is what enables CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensing. The long 320 mm stroke means side loads on the rod deserve attention: guide the load externally rather than loading the rod laterally.
Quick checklist
At 0.5 MPa it pushes with 628.3 N and pulls with 527.8 N; at 0.7 MPa that rises to 879.6 N push and 738.9 N pull, with a theoretical maximum of 128.1 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Converting the 0.5 MPa push gives about 64 kgf, so a sensible safe vertical load using the 0.6 rule of thumb is roughly 38 kg.
The cushion is adjustable at both stroke ends: turn the needle to meter the exhaust air and the piston decelerates smoothly near the end of travel, which is why the MGC tolerates higher speeds and heavier moving loads than the bumper MG. It only decelerates the stroke, however - it is not a lock or brake, and the cylinder will not hold position on air loss. For a held load, fit an external rod lock or pilot-operated check valve.
