About the Airtac MGC Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MGC40X75S

The AirTAC MGC40X75S is a double acting, JIS-standard round-body mini cylinder with a 40 mm bore and 75 mm stroke, fitted with a variable air cushion at both stroke ends. Unlike a fixed bumper pad, the cushion needle is adjustable, so you can dial in smooth deceleration near end of travel. That makes this bore size well suited to faster cycles and heavier moving loads: at 0.5 MPa it delivers 628.3 N of push force and 527.8 N of pull force, with 879.6 N push at 0.7 MPa. The barrel is SUS304 stainless steel with a hard-chrome plated 20 um carbon-steel rod, and the front and back covers are riveted and rolled onto the barrel for a compact, rugged JIS footprint. The two-way piston seal also stores lubricant, reducing maintenance intervals.

The S in the model code means a magnet is fitted on the piston, so CMSG, DMSG or EMSG reed switches can be clipped onto the barrel for end-of-stroke detection. Ports are 1/8" with PT thread as standard (G and NPT available), and mounting options include the FA flange and LB foot plus I and Y rod knuckles. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, speed range 30-800 mm/s, and temperature range -20 to +70 C on air filtered to 40 um. Note that the air cushion only decelerates the piston near the stroke ends; it is not a lock or brake, so an external rod lock or pilot check valve is recommended if the load must be held on air loss.

Where the Airtac MGC Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MGC40X75S Is Used

speed

High-cycle pusher on packaging lines

The variable air cushion lets this 40 mm bore run at the upper end of its 30-800 mm/s speed range, decelerating cartons or trays smoothly at stroke end without hammering the covers, while the magnet feeds position signals to the PLC.

precision_manufacturing

Clamping and press-fit fixtures

With 628.3 N of push force at 0.5 MPa (879.6 N at 0.7 MPa), the MGC40X75S holds workpieces or seats light press-fit parts in machining and assembly fixtures, and the adjustable cushion prevents shock on fast approach.

conveyor_belt

Conveyor divert and stop stations

Mounted with an LB foot or FA flange, the stainless SUS304 barrel and hard-chrome rod stand up to washdown-prone conveyor environments, diverting or stopping product with a controlled, cushioned stroke.

Is the Airtac MGC Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MGC40X75S the Right Cylinder?

At 40 mm bore, the MGC40X75S sits in the upper-middle of the MGC range: 628.3 N push at 0.5 MPa (about 64 kgf), roughly 2.5 times the force of the 25 mm bore and clearly above the 32 mm bore at 402.2 N, while the 50 mm bore steps up to 981.3 N. A practical sizing rule is to load the cylinder to about 0.6 of its push force, so plan on roughly 38 kg of safe working load horizontally, or about 32 kg for vertical lifting. If your application runs at moderate speed with light loads and you do not need end-of-stroke deceleration, the plain bumper-type MG in the same bore is the lower-cost alternative for 20-40 mm. Choose the -S magnet option (fitted here) if you need CMSG, DMSG or EMSG position sensing. Mount with the FA flange or LB foot, and add an I or Y rod knuckle where the load introduces side force. The 75 mm stroke is well within the 500 mm standard range, but for long strokes keep the rod side-loading low and consider external guidance, since the 16 mm rod is not intended to carry bending loads.

Airtac MGC Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MGC40X75S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa the 40 mm bore delivers 628.3 N push and 527.8 N pull; at 0.7 MPa it reaches 879.6 N push and 738.9 N pull. The theoretical maximum is 128.1 kgf at 1.0 MPa. For sizing, keep the working load at about 0.6 of the push force, roughly 38 kg horizontally or about 32 kg when lifting vertically.

The cushion needle at each stroke end is adjustable, so you can throttle the exhaust air and decelerate the piston smoothly before it reaches the cover; it is an air cushion, not a mechanical bumper pad and not a load lock, so use an external rod lock or pilot check valve if the load must hold on air loss. Because the S code means a magnet is fitted, CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches can be mounted on the SUS304 barrel for end-of-stroke detection.
