About the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD20X75S

The AirTAC MGCD20X75S is a double acting, double-rod JIS round-body mini cylinder with a 20 mm bore and 75 mm stroke. Because a rod exits both covers with the same M8x1.25 male thread at each end, the piston works on the rod-side area in both directions, so the output force is equal both ways: about 131.9 N at 0.5 MPa and 184.7 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 26.9 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Unlike the bumper-equipped MGD, this build carries a variable air cushion at both ends, so you can dial in the deceleration for smooth stops at higher speeds or with heavier carried loads. The magnet fitted as standard (the S code) allows CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches to be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing.

Construction follows the JIS mini-cylinder footprint: a riveted SUS304 stainless barrel with hard-chrome plated carbon-steel rods for low wear and corrosion resistance, and a two-way lubricant-storing piston seal. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), withstands a proof pressure of 1.5 MPa (215 psi), operates from -20 to +70 C, and covers 30-800 mm/s. As a practical sizing rule, keep the working load near 0.6 of the push force: that is roughly 79 N, or about 8 kg for a vertical lift on this 20 mm bore. Ports are M5x0.8 on both covers.

Where the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD20X75S Is Used

sync_alt

High-speed anti-rotation transfer

The through-rod keeps the carried part from rotating while the variable air cushion softens each stop, letting this 131.9 N cylinder cycle faster at pick-and-place stations without hard end-of-stroke impact.

compress

Twin-load press with soft stop

With an M8x1.25 rod end at each cover, the MGCD20X75S can carry a light pressing or clamping load on both ends simultaneously, and the adjustable cushions give a controlled, repeatable final approach.

sensors

Rear-switch slide with position feedback

The rear rod end drives a stop flag or cam while the fitted magnet and a CMSG or DMSG switch confirm both stroke ends, and the cushioned ends protect the slide at 30-800 mm/s speeds.

Is the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD20X75S the Right Cylinder?

Choose the MGCD20X75S when you need equal force in both directions, anti-rotation guidance from a through-rod, and adjustable cushioning at both stroke ends in a compact 20 mm bore. If your load needs more muscle, step up to MGCD25 or MGCD32; for the largest cushioned double-rod forces in this family, MGCD50 and MGCD63 are the only 50/63 options in the MG range. If you do not need a cushion and want a simple bumper double-rod cylinder at this size, look at the MGD; for a single rod with a cushion, the MGC is the equivalent. Mounting is LB foot or FA flange, with I and Y rod knuckles available (no CB or SDB on this series). The S in the model code means the magnet is already fitted, so CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches can be added directly. Keep 75 mm well inside the 300 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore, and support long strokes externally if side loads are present. Note that the cushion only decelerates the piston at each end; it is not a lock, so use an external rod lock or pilot check valve if the load must be held on air loss.

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Do not dismantle the riveted front/back covers.
  • check On first run, back off the cushion and release gradually.
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD20X75S FAQ

Because both chambers see the rod-side area, the force is equal in both directions: 131.9 N at 0.5 MPa and 184.7 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 26.9 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure is 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature range is -20 to +70 C, speed is 30-800 mm/s, and the fluid is air filtered to 40 um. Ports are M5x0.8 and the rod thread is M8x1.25 at both ends.

The cushion is an adjustable air cushion at both ends: you tune the orifice to decelerate the piston smoothly before each cover, which suits higher speeds and heavier loads. It only slows the piston at the stroke ends and does not lock or hold the load on air loss, so add an external rod lock or pilot check valve for holding. The MGCD is the double-rod version with this cushion, giving equal force both ways; the MGD is double rod with a fixed bumper instead, and the MGC is a single-rod cushioned cylinder. The S in MGCD20X75S means the magnet is fitted, so CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches can be mounted.
