A 12 mm hard-chrome rod exits BOTH covers with the same M10x1.25 male thread at each end, so both sides of the piston see the rod-side area and the output force is equal in both directions: about 345.6 N at 0.5 MPa and 483.8 N at 0.7 MPa (theoretical maximum 70.5 kgf at 1.0 MPa). Each end carries a variable air cushion with an adjustable orifice, so the piston decelerates smoothly into both covers instead of slamming, which suits higher speeds and heavier loads than an un-cushioned body. The rear rod end also gives you a second working surface for a stop, flag or twin load.
