About the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD50X125

The AirTAC MGCD50X125 is a double acting, double-rod JIS round-body mini cylinder with a 50 mm bore and 125 mm stroke. A rod exits both covers with the same M18x1.5 male thread at each end, so both strokes act on the rod-side area and deliver an equal force of about 824 N each way at 0.5 MPa (1154 N at 0.7 MPa). Unlike bumper-equipped builds, this variant carries a variable air cushion at both ends: adjusting screws meter the exhaust at each cover so the piston decelerates smoothly, letting you run higher speeds or heavier loads without hard metal-to-metal stops. The through-rod also gives natural anti-rotation and a free rear rod end for a stop flag, switch trigger, or a second load.

Construction follows the JIS mini-cylinder footprint: a riveted SUS304 stainless barrel with a hard-chrome plated 20 mm rod for corrosion resistance and low wear, and a two-way lubricant-storing piston seal. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), from -20 to +70 C, at speeds of 30-800 mm/s. For a realistic working load, size around 60% of the 824.3 N force, which is roughly 50 kgf; for vertical lifting that is about 25 kg. Note the cushion only decelerates the stroke ends and is not a lock: the MGCD50X125 will not hold its load on air loss, so add an external rod lock or pilot check valve for holding. Ports are 1/4". This unit has no magnet; the optional S code enables CMSG / DMSG / EMSG position sensors.

Where the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD50X125 Is Used

swap_horiz

High-speed anti-rotation transfer

The through-rod keeps the payload from rotating while the variable air cushion at both ends lets the 50 mm bore shuttle parts at up to 800 mm/s with soft, adjustable stops at each end of the 125 mm stroke.

compress

Twin-load press with soft stop

With 824.3 N available identically from either rod end, both ends can carry a light pressing or marking load, and the adjustable cushion gives a controlled deceleration instead of an impact at the bottom of the stroke.

sensors

Rear-rod switch slide

Use the rear rod end to carry a cam or flag past CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensors (on the -S variant) for position confirmation, while the front rod does the work and the cushion smooths each reversal.

Is the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD50X125 the Right Cylinder?

Choose the MGCD50X125 when you need equal force in both directions with smooth, adjustable deceleration at each end of a 125 mm stroke. At 824.3 N per direction at 0.5 MPa it sits in the middle of the MGCD range: step down to bore 32 or 40 for lighter duty, or up to bore 63 (1400.9 N) for heavier loads. If you want a double-rod cylinder with a fixed bumper instead of an adjustable cushion in the smaller 20-40 bores, look at the MGD; for a single-rod cushioned cylinder, the MGC is the counterpart. Mount with the LB foot or FA flange (no CB/SDB options on this family) and pair with I or Y rod knuckles on the rod ends. If you need end-of-stroke detection, order the -S variant so CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensors can be fitted; this non-S model accepts no sensor. The 125 mm stroke is within the 500 mm maximum standard stroke for bore 50, so longer standard strokes are available. For long strokes or side loads, add external guides since the plain rod bearings are not designed to carry moment loads.

Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD50X125 FAQ

Because the double-rod design exposes the rod-side area in both directions, the MGCD50X125 delivers 824.3 N each way at 0.5 MPa and 1154 N each way at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 168.1 kgf at 1.0 MPa. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure is 1.5 MPa (215 psi), operating temperature -20 to +70 C, and speed range 30-800 mm/s. Ports are 1/4" and the rod thread is M18x1.5 at both ends.

The MGCD50X125 has an adjustable air cushion at both ends: a metering screw at each cover throttles the exhaust so the piston decelerates over the last part of travel, which you can tune for the speed and load. The MGD is also a double-rod cylinder but uses fixed bumper pads instead of an adjustable cushion, and the MGC is a single-rod cushioned cylinder with a larger push than pull force. Remember the cushion only slows the piston near the stroke ends; it is not a brake, so the cylinder will not hold a load on air loss. Use an external rod lock or pilot check valve for holding, and order the -S code if you want CMSG / DMSG / EMSG magnetic sensors.
