About the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD50X300

The AirTAC MGCD50X300 is a double acting, double rod JIS-standard round-body mini cylinder with a 50 mm bore and a 300 mm stroke. A hard-chrome 20 mm rod exits BOTH covers with the same M18x1.5 male thread at each end, so the rod ends move together and the effective area is the rod-side area in either direction. The result is an equal output force of about 824.3 N each way at 0.5 MPa (1154 N at 0.7 MPa, up to a theoretical 168.1 kgf at 1.0 MPa), plus a rear rod end you can use for a position flag, a stop cam or a second light load. Because the through-rod is guided at both covers, the design also gives useful anti-rotation behavior for transfer work.

Unlike a bumper-padded build, this MGCD carries a VARIABLE AIR CUSHION at both ends: two adjusting screws let you meter the exhaust and decelerate the piston smoothly into each cover, so the 300 mm stroke can run at high speed with heavier or faster-moving loads without hard metal impact. The barrel is SUS304 stainless with riveted covers and a two-way lubricant-storing piston seal; ports are 1/4". Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), -20 to +70 C, speed 30-800 mm/s, on air filtered to 40 um. As a working rule, keep the vertical load near 0.6 of the push force, so about 50 kg is a sensible vertical figure for this bore.

Where the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD50X300 Is Used

swap_horiz

High-speed anti-rotation transfer

The 300 mm through-rod stroke shifts parts sideways at up to 800 mm/s while the variable air cushions at both ends give soft, adjustable stops, and the twin rods resist rotation for repeatable placement at about 824 N each way.

compress

Twin-load press with soft stop

Rod ends on both covers let one MGCD50X300 carry a light load or fixture on the rear rod while the front rod presses at 824.3 N at 0.5 MPa, with the adjustable cushion easing the piston into the end of stroke.

sensors

Rear-switch slide (with -S option)

On a long 300 mm slide, the rear rod end carries a cam or flag; order the -S variant to fit CMSG or DMSG switches for end-of-stroke signaling while the cushions tame high-speed deceleration.

Is the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD50X300 the Right Cylinder?

Size MGCD cylinders by force, not bore alone: at 0.5 MPa this 50 mm bore gives 824.3 N in both directions, so for a realistic working load plan on roughly 60% of that, about 50 kg vertical. If you need more, step up to the 63 mm bore (1400.9 N each way); for lighter duty the 40 mm (527.8 N) may suffice. If your application is a double-rod cylinder at 20-40 mm bore WITHOUT cushioning, the MGD with fixed bumpers is the alternative; if you need a single rod plus cushion, choose the MGC instead. This MGCD50X300 suits fast 300 mm strokes where smooth, adjustable deceleration at both ends matters. Mount with the FA flange or LB foot, and add I or Y rod knuckles on the rod ends (SDB and CB are not offered). Order the -S option if you want position sensing with CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches; this non-S model has no magnet and cannot carry a sensor. For long strokes, support the rod or minimize side load to protect the bearings.

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Do not dismantle the riveted front/back covers.
  • check On first run, back off the cushion and release gradually.
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD50X300 FAQ

Because both chambers are rod-side, output is equal both ways: 824.3 N at 0.5 MPa and 1154 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 168.1 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 30-800 mm/s, on air filtered to 40 um. Ports are 1/4" and the rod thread is M18x1.5 at both ends.

The cushion here is an adjustable air cushion at both ends, tuned by screws to decelerate the piston smoothly; the MGD uses fixed bumper pads and no cushion, and the MGC is a single-rod cushioned cylinder. The double rod gives equal force in both directions and a usable rear rod end. Note the cushion only slows the piston at stroke end: it is not a lock, so the cylinder will not hold its position on air loss. Use an external rod lock or pilot check valve, and add -S if you need CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensing.
