About the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X100S

The AirTAC MGCD63X100S is a double acting, double-rod JIS round-body mini cylinder with a 63 mm bore and 100 mm stroke. Because a 20 mm hard-chrome steel rod exits both covers with the same M18x1.5 male thread at each end, the piston works against the rod-side area in both directions, so the output force is equal both ways: about 1400.9 N at 0.5 MPa and 1961.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 285.7 kgf at 1.0 MPa. A variable air cushion at both ends lets you tune the deceleration for smooth, high-speed stops under heavier loads, and the rear rod end can carry a second load, a stop plate, or a position flag. Air ports are 1/4".

The magnet fitted as standard (the S in the model code) allows CMSG, DMSG or EMSG reed switches to be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling. The barrel is SUS304 stainless with riveted, rolled covers for a compact JIS footprint, and the piston seal is a two-way lubricant-storing type. Operating range is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, air filtered to 40 um, -20 to +70 C, and speeds of 30-800 mm/s. As a buyer insight: applying the usual 0.6 safety factor to the 0.5 MPa force gives a realistic working load of about 840 N, or roughly 85 kgf - and halved for a vertical lift, about 42 kg.

Where the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X100S Is Used

speed

High-speed anti-rotation transfer

The through-rod keeps the carried part from rotating while the variable air cushion at each end absorbs the energy of fast 30-800 mm/s travel, so a 63 mm bore pushing about 1400.9 N can index pallets or fixtures quickly without hard metal stops.

compress

Twin-load press with soft stop

With a rod end at both covers, the MGCD63X100S can press or stake from either side with equal force - about 1961.2 N at 0.7 MPa each way - while the adjustable cushion gives a smooth, controlled landing instead of a jarring impact.

sensors

Rear-switch slide with position flag

The rear rod end carries a cam or flag past CMSG/DMSG/EMSG switches (enabled by the fitted magnet), turning one 100 mm stroke into a redundant position check on a slide, gate, or clamping station.

Is the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X100S the Right Cylinder?

Size the MGCD by force, not bore: at 63 mm this is the largest cushioned double-rod mini cylinder in the range, delivering 1400.9 N each way at 0.5 MPa. If you need less force, step down to the 50 mm MGCD (824.3 N) or the 40 mm (527.8 N). If you want a double-rod cylinder without cushioning in smaller bores (20-40 mm), look at the MGD, which uses fixed bumper pads instead; for a single rod with cushion, the MGC is the equivalent. Choose the MGCD63X100S when you need equal force in both directions, anti-rotation guidance from the through-rod, and adjustable end-of-stroke deceleration for higher speeds or heavier masses. The 100 mm stroke is within the 500 mm maximum standard stroke for this bore. Mounting is LB foot or FA flange, with I and Y rod knuckles available (no CB or SDB options). The fitted magnet supports CMSG/DMSG/EMSG switches. Note that the cushion only decelerates the piston near each end - it is not a lock, so the cylinder will not hold its position on air loss; add an external rod lock or pilot check valve for load holding. For long strokes or side loads, add external guidance.

Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X100S FAQ

Because both sides of the piston see the rod-side area, the force is equal in both directions: 1400.9 N at 0.5 MPa and 1961.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 285.7 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 30-800 mm/s, and the medium is air filtered to 40 um. Ports are 1/4" and the rod thread is M18x1.5 at both ends.

The MGCD has an adjustable air cushion at both ends that decelerates the piston smoothly near each end of stroke - you tune it for the load and speed. It is not a fixed bumper pad (that is the MGD, which is a double-rod cylinder without cushioning in bores 20-40 mm) and it is not a single-rod design (that is the MGC). The double rod means equal force both ways and anti-rotation, and the S in MGCD63X100S means a magnet is fitted, so CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches can be mounted for position sensing. Remember the cushion decelerates but does not lock: use an external rod lock or pilot check valve if the load must be held on air loss.
