About the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X250S

The AirTAC MGCD63X250S is a double acting, double-rod JIS round-body mini cylinder with a 63 mm bore and 250 mm stroke. A hard-chrome rod exits BOTH covers with the same M18x1.5 male thread at each end, so both sides of the piston see the rod-side area and the output force is equal in both directions: about 1400.9 N at 0.5 MPa and 1961.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 285.7 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The rear rod end is free for a stop flag, position switch trip or a second load, and the through-rod gives natural anti-rotation for guided work. This variant carries the S magnet code, so CMSG, DMSG or EMSG reed switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling.

Unlike a bumper-padded build, the MGCD63X250S has a VARIABLE air cushion at each end: adjusting screws meter the exhaust so the piston decelerates smoothly into both covers, letting you run faster strokes or carry heavier loads without hard metal impact. Construction follows the JIS mini-cylinder footprint with a riveted SUS304 stainless barrel and hard-chrome plated carbon-steel rod, running on air filtered to 40 um at 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof tested to 1.5 MPa (215 psi), from -20 to +70 C at 30-800 mm/s. As a working rule, size loads at about 0.6 of the developed force: roughly 840 N, or about 71 kg for a vertical lift at 0.5 MPa.

Where the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X250S Is Used

swap_horiz

High-speed anti-rotation transfer

At 1400.9 N each way, the 63 mm through-rod slides fixtures between stations without a separate guide, while the variable air cushions tame the stop at 250 mm stroke for faster cycle times.

compress

Twin-load press with soft stop

Rod ends on both covers press or stake two parts per cycle at equal force, and the adjustable cushions decelerate the ram into the work so heavier loads arrive without hammering the tooling.

sensors

Rear-switch slide with cushioned ends

The rear rod end trips CMSG/DMSG/EMSG switches (magnet fitted on this S model) for position confirmation, while both-end air cushioning protects the 250 mm stroke at speed.

Is the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X250S the Right Cylinder?

Choose the MGCD63X250S when you need the largest cushioned double-rod mini cylinder in the MG family: 63 mm bore delivering 1400.9 N equally in both directions at 0.5 MPa with a 250 mm stroke. If your load needs less force, step down to MGCD50 (824.3 N), MGCD40 (527.8 N) or smaller; bore 63 is the top of the range. For a double-rod cylinder with fixed bumper pads instead of an adjustable cushion at bore 20-40, the MGD is the alternative, and for a single rod with a cushion the MGC applies. The variable air cushion suits high-speed or high-inertia stops; the through-rod suits anti-rotation transfer and twin-load work. Mount with FA flange or LB foot (no CB/SDB on this family) and add I or Y rod knuckles where a pivoting load demands it. The fitted magnet means CMSG/DMSG/EMSG switches can be added at any time. For long 250 mm strokes, keep side load off the rod or guide the load externally to protect the bearings.

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Do not dismantle the riveted front/back covers.
  • check On first run, back off the cushion and release gradually.
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X250S FAQ

Because the rod-side area works in both directions, output is equal both ways: 1400.9 N at 0.5 MPa and 1961.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 285.7 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 30-800 mm/s, on air filtered to 40 um. Ports are 1/4" and the rod thread is M18x1.5 at both ends.

The MGCD63X250S combines a DOUBLE rod with an adjustable air cushion at both ends: you meter the cushion screws for smooth deceleration, whereas the MGD uses fixed bumper pads and the MGC is single-rod. The through-rod gives equal force both directions and anti-rotation. The cushion only slows the piston near each cover; it is not a lock, so the cylinder will not hold a load on air loss - use an external rod lock or pilot check valve for that. The fitted magnet accepts CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches for end-of-stroke signalling.
