About the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X50

The AirTAC MGCD63X50 is a double acting, double-rod JIS round-body mini cylinder with a 63 mm bore and 50 mm stroke, fitted with a variable air cushion at both ends. Because a 20 mm rod exits both covers with the same M18x1.5 male thread, both strokes act on the rod-side area, so the output force is equal in each direction: about 1400.9 N at 0.5 MPa and 1961.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 285.7 kgf at 1.0 MPa. The adjustable cushion decelerates the piston smoothly at each end, allowing higher speeds and heavier loads than an unbuffered cylinder of the same size. Air supply is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure is 1.5 MPa (215 psi), operating temperature is -20 to +70 C, and speed range is 30-800 mm/s with air filtered to 40 um.

Construction follows the JIS mini-cylinder footprint: a riveted SUS304 stainless barrel with hard-chrome-plated carbon steel rods for corrosion resistance and long seal life, and a two-way lubricant-storing piston seal. Ports are 1/4". The rear rod end can carry a second load, a stop plate or a position flag, and the through-rod resists rotation. This model ships without the magnet option; ordering the S code enables CMSG, DMSG or EMSG magnetic switches. Mounting is by FA flange or LB foot, with I and Y rod knuckles available. Note that the cushion only decelerates the stroke ends: it is not a lock, so use an external rod lock or pilot check valve where the load must be held on air loss.

Where the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X50 Is Used

swap_horiz

High-speed anti-rotation transfer

The through-rod keeps the carried part from rotating while the variable air cushion absorbs the stop at each end, letting the 1400.9 N slide run at the top of the 30-800 mm/s range without hard metal impact.

compress

Twin-load press with soft stop

Rod ends on both sides press or stake two stations in one cycle, each seeing about 1400.9 N at 0.5 MPa, while the adjustable cushion gives a smooth, controlled seating force instead of a jarring stop.

sensors

Rear-flag slide with position switches

The rear rod end carries a cam or flag that trips switches at both stroke ends; order the S magnet version to mount CMSG or DMSG sensors directly, and the cushion damps the reversal at each limit.

Is the Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X50 the Right Cylinder?

At 63 mm bore this is the largest MGCD, delivering 1400.9 N each way at 0.5 MPa. A practical rule of thumb is to size the load at about 60 percent of that figure, roughly 840 N (about 85 kgf) per direction; for a vertical lift that means a safe working load of roughly 71 kg. If your application needs less force, step down to the 50 mm MGCD (824.3 N each way); if you need a single-rod cushioned cylinder instead of a through-rod, choose the MGC, and for a bumper-cushioned double rod in bores 20-40, the MGD. Choose the MGCD63X50 when you need equal force both directions, anti-rotation guidance, a rear rod end for a flag or second load, and adjustable deceleration at both ends. Standard strokes for this bore run up to 500 mm, so the 50 mm stroke is a compact, standard build. Specify LB foot or FA flange mounting, I or Y knuckles on the rod ends, PT threads (G or NPT on request), and add the S magnet code if you plan to fit CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches. For long strokes or side loads, add external guidance.

Airtac MGCD Stainless Steel Mini Air Cylinder MGCD63X50 FAQ

Because it is a double-rod cylinder, the force is equal in both directions: 1400.9 N at 0.5 MPa and 1961.2 N at 0.7 MPa, with a theoretical maximum of 285.7 kgf at 1.0 MPa. Operating pressure is 0.15-1.0 MPa (22-145 psi), proof pressure is 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature range is -20 to +70 C, speed is 30-800 mm/s, and the air must be filtered to 40 um. Ports are 1/4" and the rod thread is M18x1.5 on both ends.

The MGCD63X50 has an adjustable air cushion at both ends that decelerates the piston near each stroke end, so you can run higher speeds or carry heavier loads without hard impact. It is a cushion, not a brake: the cylinder will not hold its load on air loss, so add an external rod lock or pilot check valve for that. Unlike the MGD, which uses fixed bumper pads, the MGCD cushion is adjustable; unlike the single-rod MGC, the MGCD has a rod at both ends, giving equal force both ways and a rear rod end for a stop or second load. The optional S magnet enables CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches.
