Airtac MSK Multi-position Locking Cylinder MSK16X20

The AirTAC Airtac MSK Multi-position Locking Cylinder MSK16X20 is a genuine MK multi-mount cylinder (single acting, push type), 16 mm bore. Its compact square body fixes from six directions and mounts side by side to save space. It delivers about 70.4 N of push force at 0.5 MPa. A bumper cushions the impact. As an MK unit a fixed rod stops the piston rod rotating.

About the Airtac MSK Multi-position Locking Cylinder MSK16X20

The MSK16X20 is an AirTAC MK-series multi-mount cylinder: a compact square-body unit that can be fixed from 6 directions (front, back, left, right, top and bottom) and mounted side by side with identical units to save space. This version is single acting, push type, with a 16 mm bore and a 20 mm stroke, so spring retraction returns the rod and compressed air delivers the working push. At 0.5 MPa the theoretical push force is about 70.4 N, suited to light clamping and positioning, and the cushion is a bumper. Magnetic-switch slots run around the body and no added lubricant is needed.

This is a genuine AirTAC part. The MK family is the no-rotating variant: a fixed rod and no-rotating plate stop the piston rod from turning, which matters when the load must stay square. The SKU shows no magnet, so this cylinder is supplied without magnetic position sensing. We can confirm dimensions, weights and sizing details from the datasheet on request.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC MD/MK multi-mount data. The front cover and piston are short, so avoid an over-long stroke. An optional high-temperature seal material extends the range to 0 to 150 C. Overall dimensions vary per stroke and allowable side-load is published as curves — ask us and we confirm from the datasheet.

How to choose

Choose the bore for the force you need: at 0.5 MPa the 16 mm single-acting push gives about 70.4 N, so step up to a larger bore if your clamp or stopper needs more. MK prevents rod rotation while MD allows it; pick MK when the load must not turn. Acting type matters here: MSK is single-acting push (air extends, spring returns), while MK is double acting and MT K is single-acting pull.

The 20 mm stroke sits within the single-acting table limit of 20 mm, so do not order a longer stroke for this cover style. The SKU has no trailing S, so no magnet is fitted; add the S suffix if you need switch sensing. Port thread is PT by default with a G option, M5x0.8 on this bore. Side-load capacity depends on the application - confirm from the datasheet with us before relying on it.

Applications

pan_tool

Small-parts clamping

The non-rotating rod keeps a clamp pad square to the part while the single-acting push holds it; spring retraction releases automatically when air is lost.

engineering

Jig positioning

Fixed from the top or side of a fixture, the 20 mm stroke advances a locator pin into place, and the square body mounts side by side across multi-station jigs.

settings

Gate and stopper duty

Mounted under a conveyor line, the no-rotating rod raises a stopper blade squarely into the product path; losing air drops the stopper for fail-safe flow.

FAQ

Why choose the MSK over an MD cylinder for this bore and stroke?

MSK is the single-acting push version of the MK family: air pressure extends the rod and a spring returns it, and the no-rotating plate and fixed rod stop the rod from turning. Use it where a spring return and a square, non-rotating push are wanted - for example lifting a stopper or holding a clamp. The double-acting MD allows rotation and works on air both ways instead.

Can I extend the stroke or mount this cylinder under a side load?

The 20 mm stroke is already at the top of the single-acting stroke table, so a longer stroke is not available on this cover style - keep the application within it. For side-load capacity and exact body dimensions, check the datasheet or ask us, since these depend on the mounting direction and the model.
