About the Airtac MTG Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MTG40X75

The AirTAC MTG40X75 is a single acting, pull-type JIS round-body mini cylinder with a 40 mm bore and 75 mm stroke. In this configuration the internal spring holds the rod extended at rest, and compressed air retracts (pulls) the rod on the work stroke, so one air line is all the plumbing you need for a one-way draw, retract, close or tension motion. The output figures are net pull after the spring: about 339.1 N at 0.5 MPa and 550.1 N at 0.7 MPa, with a minimum working pressure of 0.2 MPa and a speed range of 50 to 800 mm/s. As a practical buyer insight, applying the usual 0.6 safety factor gives roughly 203 N, or about 20 kg of safe vertical pull load at 0.5 MPa.

Construction suits damp and washdown surroundings: a SUS304 stainless barrel with a hard-chrome (20 um) carbon-steel rod, riveted rolled covers, a two-way lubricant-storing piston seal and a fixed anti-impact bumper pad that softens the stroke end. The footprint is JIS mini-cylinder, with a 16 mm rod carrying a male M14x1.5 thread and a 1/8" air port on every bore in the series. Note that on air loss the spring pushes the rod back out to its extended rest position, so the cylinder does not hold a load, and the bumper pad is not a lock or brake. Add the S magnet code if you want CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switch sensing.

Where the Airtac MTG Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MTG40X75 Is Used

vertical_align_bottom

Retracting a locating pin

Air pulls the pin out of a fixture nest on each cycle while the spring pushes it back into position when pressure drops, ideal for one-way pin retract with simple single-line plumbing.

conveyor_belt

Tensioning a belt or web

The 339.1 N net pull at 0.5 MPa keeps a light belt, film or web under steady tension as the spring takes up slack whenever air is released.

factory

Closing a shutter or gate

Air retracts the rod to draw a small guard shutter or chute gate closed, and the spring returns it open on air loss for a fail-safe motion.

Is the Airtac MTG Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MTG40X75 the Right Cylinder?

Choose the MTG40X75 when your motion is a one-way pull of about 339 N (roughly 34 kgf) at 0.5 MPa over a 75 mm stroke. Within the MTG range, bore 40 is the largest and strongest: bore 20 gives 84.8 N, bore 25 gives 132.6 N and bore 32 gives 224.8 N at 0.5 MPa, so step down if your load is lighter and you want a smaller envelope. Remember the behaviour: the spring extends the rod and air retracts it, and the spring sets a 0.2 MPa minimum working pressure (range 0.2-1.0 MPa = 28-145 psi). The spring return also caps standard strokes at 150 mm for this bore; if you need two-way powered travel or a longer stroke, move to the double-acting MG series instead. Mounting options are LB foot, FA flange, CB clevis and SDB pivot, plus I and Y rod knuckles, with PT thread standard (G or NPT on request). Position sensing needs the -S magnet code to accept CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches; this no-S SKU has no magnet fitted.

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.2 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Do not dismantle the riveted front/back covers.
  • check On first run, back off the cushion/impact settings and release gradually.
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac MTG Stainless Steel Mini Cylinder MTG40X75 FAQ

The net pull (already after the spring) is 339.1 N at 0.5 MPa and 550.1 N at 0.7 MPa. The operating pressure range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), so the spring sets a 0.2 MPa minimum; proof pressure is 1.5 MPa (215 psi). It runs on air filtered to 40 um, at 50-800 mm/s and -20 to +70 C, with a 1/8" port and a 16 mm rod in M14x1.5 male thread.

On the MTG the spring extends the rod and compressed air retracts (pulls) it; if air is lost the spring pushes the rod back out to its extended rest position, so it does not hold a load and the fixed bumper pad is not a brake. The MSG is the opposite single acting type (air pushes, spring retracts), while the MG is double acting with powered air in both directions. Adding the S magnet code lets you fit CMSG, DMSG or EMSG switches; without it no sensor can be mounted.
