About the Airtac PSS Exhaust Throttle Type Universal Speed Control Valve PSS1204A
The PSS1204A is AirTAC's universal speed controller for Dia 12 soft nylon or polyurethane tubing, fitted to a 1/2in PT port. It meters air in one direction and lets it run free in the other, which is how you set the stroke speed of a pneumatic actuator. This is the A suffix, so the controlled path runs from the thread port to the tube. AirTAC treats meter-out as the first choice: on a double-acting cylinder driven by a solenoid valve, throttling the exhaust traps a back-pressure cushion that carries the load evenly, instead of letting the piston lurch ahead of the supply.
Unlike the fixed-direction PSL, the PSS body swivels a full 360 degrees on its 1/2in connection, so you can tighten the thread into whatever orientation the port gives you and then turn the body until the knob faces the operator. Adjustment is a grey knob over an aluminium-alloy locking cap: lift, set, press down to lock. Inside, a brass throttling column and body shape the flow, with a PBT holder, NBR O-ring and POM sealing faces completing the wetted stack. Meter-Out or Meter-In?
- check Meter-out (A) is the default. It throttles the air LEAVING the cylinder, so the piston runs against a back-pressure cushion and moves smoothly.
- check Use meter-out on double-acting cylinders - it is the one AirTAC lists as first priority.

The B (meter-in) variant suits single-acting cylinders instead. Knob adjustment is faster to set during commissioning than the push-lock caps on the PTL family; if your fitting gets knocked by operators or chips, the push-lock design resists that better.
Sizing: on the PSS ladder the 1/2in thread is offered in Dia 12 only, so this is the largest part in the series and there is no bigger step up. If your thread is 3/8in, step down to PSS1203A for the same 12mm bore, or PSS1003A if a 10mm tube suits the cylinder port. Mount the controller directly in the cylinder port rather than at the valve - the throttled air volume stays small and speed control stays crisp.
