About the Airtac PTL Exhaust Throttle Type Speed Control Valve PTL601AD
The PTL601AD is a push-lock speed controller that meters air from the 1/8in PT thread port out to the Dia 6 tube, while air travelling the opposite way passes through the brass throttling column unrestricted. That meter-out arrangement is the first choice for a solenoid valve driving a double-acting cylinder: throttling the exhaust leaves a back-pressure cushion behind the piston, so the stroke stays smooth instead of lurching under changing load. The handle is marked A to confirm meter-out.
Unlike the knob-and-locknut PSL, this version uses a push-lock cap: press the black cap in, turn it to set the speed, and release. The POM cap grips the adjustment and resists being knocked off position by vibration or an operator brushing past, which is why push-lock parts are favoured on mobile fixtures and tightly packed panels. The D suffix means the standard grey body is supplied in black. Torque the 1/8in push-lock cap to 0.08 N.m when fitting so the seal seats without cracking the POM.

Meter-Out or Meter-In?

Confirm the control direction first. If your valve drives a double-acting cylinder and you want the stroke cushioned, meter-out PTL601AD is correct; for a single-acting spring-return cylinder, take the meter-in PTL601B instead, since meter-in on a double-acting cylinder tends to stick-slip as load varies. Note that the tube outlet is fixed on the PTL body - it does not swivel. If you need the elbow to rotate to meet the tube run, that is the PTS family.
On size: Dia 6 is the smallest tube on the PTL 1/8in ladder, so there is no Dia 4 here - the mini PTL-M covers Dia 4 in M5 and 1/8in.
