Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X100

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X100 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø160mm bore, 100mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X100

The AirTAC SAILB160X100 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This robust 160mm bore design securely holds the rod at the retracted stroke end, delivering massive thrust—14074N push and 9425N pull at 0.7 MPa. It uses a carbon steel rod with an M36x2 thread and a 3/4 PT port.

Because the lock physically engages only at the stroke terminal, it provides a static hold rather than acting as a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Note the locker-end air cushion is shorter (28mm) than the free-end cushion (50mm) to accommodate the locking hardware. The lock automatically releases via air pressure or manually via a lever, ensuring reliable load management without requiring constant live pressure.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X100 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures heavy lifted assemblies in the retracted position automatically upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops in heavy machinery.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Holds heavy safety gates or guards closed at the stroke end without consuming continuous pneumatic energy during the hold cycle.

precision_manufacturing

Clamp and Hold

Maintains massive clamping force on large fabricated components at the end of the stroke while secondary operations are performed.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X100 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 160mm bore when a smaller 125mm unit (providing 8590N push at 0.5 MPa) lacks the necessary force, or step down from a 200mm bore if 21991N is excessive. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the retracted position; choose SAILF if the extended end requires holding. If your application demands clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

For safe operation, never use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder; back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock, so an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. Always confirm the exact lock holding force from the official datasheet, and add an independent mechanical safety measure if human safety depends on the load remaining elevated. Replacement parts must match the 160mm bore, 100mm stroke, back locker position, 3/4 PT port, and standard carbon steel rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB160X100 FAQ

At 0.7 MPa operating pressure, this 160mm bore cylinder provides a push force of 14074N and a pull force of 9425N. At the maximum 1.0 MPa pressure, it achieves a push force of 18095N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, releasing automatically via air supply or manually via a lever, and does not clamp at mid-stroke.
