Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X1000

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X1000 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 1000mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X1000

The AirTAC SAILB200X1000 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. A spring-applied, air-released mechanism engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securing heavy loads up to 15708N push and 15080N pull at 0.5 MPa without requiring continuous live air pressure. This 200mm bore unit uses a robust 40mm carbon steel rod and a 3/4 PT port.

Because the lock occupies the back cover, the variable air cushion on that locker end is notably shorter at 28mm compared to the 50mm cushion found on the free end. The lock is a static holding device that engages only after the cylinder stops; it is not a dynamic mid-stroke brake. To release the rod, supply air to the release port for automatic unlocking or use the manual release lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa15708 N15080 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X1000 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Safety

Secures heavy lifted masses in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops.

Heavy Machinery Clamp

Holds massive industrial components firmly at the stroke end without consuming continuous pneumatic energy.

shield

Gate Safety Hold

Locks large safety barriers or gates in the closed position, requiring an active air signal to unlock.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X1000 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore SAIL model when your application demands maximum thrust and guaranteed safety holding at the retracted position. If your force requirements are lower, stepping down to the 160mm bore reduces the 0.5 MPa push force to 10053N while saving space. Select SAILB when the load must be secured in the rod-in position; choose SAILF instead if the extended rod-out position needs to be locked. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

For safe operation, never use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required because back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. If human safety depends on the load remaining suspended, add an independent mechanical safety measure. At a 1000mm stroke, the extended rod is highly susceptible to side loads, so rigid guiding is mandatory. Replacement parts must match the 200mm bore, 1000mm stroke, back locker position, 3/4 PT port, and standard mounting interface.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X1000 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the 200mm bore provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0 MPa operating pressure, it delivers up to 3204 kgf.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages statically at the retracted stroke end. It holds the load without live pressure and unlocks automatically via air release or a manual lever. It does not clamp at mid-stroke.
