Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 250mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250

The AirTAC SAILB200X250 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock built into the back cover. This lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the rod in place without requiring continuous live air pressure. Delivering a substantial push force of 15708N and pull force of 15080N at 0.5MPa, it is built for heavy-duty load management.

Because the lock occupies the rear end cover, the variable air cushion on that locker end is shorter (28mm) compared to the free end (50mm). The cylinder operates at 30-500mm/s and uses a carbon steel rod with M36x2 thread. For position sensing, adding the -S magnet option enables compatibility with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Gate & Door Locking

Keeps heavy industrial gates locked shut at the retracted terminal without wasting continuous compressed air.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore when the 160mm bore (10053N push at 0.5MPa) is insufficient for your maximum load. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the retracted position; if your application requires holding the load at the extended stroke end, the SAILF variant is required instead. Should you need to clamp the rod at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than at the stroke terminal, the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Remember that this lock provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves with this cylinder; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is necessary because back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. For any safety-critical application where human safety depends on the load staying up, always add an independent mechanical safety measure.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X250 FAQ

At 0.5MPa, the push force is 15708N and the pull force is 15080N. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 21991N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end to hold the load statically. It unlocks automatically via air supply or manually via a lever, but it is not a mid-stroke clamp.
