Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 300mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300

The AirTAC SAILB200X300 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This safety mechanism engages automatically to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end whenever the release air is cut, maintaining the load position without relying on live pressure. With a robust 200mm bore, it generates 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force at 0.5MPa, making it suitable for heavy-duty industrial handling.

Designed for true power-loss safety, the lock engages statically after the cylinder has stopped moving rather than acting as a dynamic brake. The variable air cushion at the locker end measures 28mm, intentionally shorter than the 50mm cushion at the free end to accommodate the locking hardware. The standard carbon steel rod features an M36x2 thread, and the 3/4 PT port handles the high air volumes required for this bore size.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Vertical Lift Hold

Secures elevated platens in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing massive loads from dropping when air pressure is removed.

shield

Press Safety Lockout

Holds a heavy press ram retracted at the stroke end during maintenance or emergency stops, providing a static hold without needing live air pressure.

warehouse

Gate and Door Retention

Keeps large industrial loading gates firmly shut in the rod-in position, using the mechanical lock to resist external forces if the air supply fails.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore model when heavy loads demand up to 15708N push force at 0.5MPa; stepping down to a 160mm bore reduces the push force to 10053N, while this size is the maximum available in the SAIL series. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be secured in the retracted (rod-in) position, and choose SAILF instead if the extended (rod-out) stroke end requires holding. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Because the stroke is 300mm, use external guide rails to prevent excessive side-loading on the rod. The lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake, and it only secures the rod at the retracted terminal. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves with this cylinder; back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock, so an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. For any safety-critical lifting application, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement parts must match the 200mm bore, 300mm stroke, back locker position, 3/4 PT port, and standard carbon steel rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300 FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, the 200mm bore provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 21991N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod only at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the cylinder stops and is unlocked by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
