Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 300mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300S

The AirTAC SAILB200X300-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a mechanical lock in the back cover. Because this is a SAILB configuration, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. It safely holds massive loads in place without requiring continuous live air pressure. In the 200mm bore class, it generates 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force at 0.5 MPa.

This unit includes a magnetic piston (-S) for position sensing using AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state switches. The variable air cushion at the locker end is 28mm, which is deliberately shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking hardware. The standard carbon steel rod handles high axial stresses, and unlocking is achieved automatically via air pressure or manually via the release lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa15708 N15080 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Vertical Lifts

Secures massive elevated platens in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing catastrophic drops without relying on live air.

shield

Safety Gate Holding

Locks heavy industrial safety gates shut at the rod-in stroke end, maintaining a secure perimeter until the release air is restored.

factory

Press Clamping

Holds large workpieces firmly at the end of the retraction cycle while secondary machining operations take place.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore when applications require extreme force, stepping up from a 160mm bore that provides 10053N push at 0.5 MPa. Select the SAILB variant specifically when the load must be secured at the rod-in position; choose SAILF instead if the extended position requires holding. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. At 300mm stroke, ensure external guide rails are used to support the heavy rod and prevent excessive side-loading. For safety-critical lifting applications, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement units must match the 200mm bore, 300mm stroke, back locker position, PT port threads, and -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X300S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 200mm bore cylinder provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0 MPa pressure, the push force reaches 3204 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover. It engages statically only when the rod reaches the retracted stroke end, not at mid-stroke. You can unlock it automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually using the release lever.
