Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 350mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350

The AirTAC SAILB200X350 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock integrated into the back cover. This robust 200mm bore unit generates a push force of 15708N and a pull force of 15080N at 0.5MPa, making it ideal for heavy-duty load control. The lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securing the load safely without relying on continuous live air pressure. You can release it pneumatically or via the manual lever.

Unlike a standard SAI cylinder, this model is built for power-failure safety. The variable air cushion at the locker end is specifically 50mm, shorter than the free end, to accommodate the locking mechanism without compromising end-of-stroke deceleration. The extruded aluminum barrel includes dual sensor grooves, and while this specific unit lacks a magnet, adding the -S option enables compatibility with CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Lift Holding

Secures massive vertical loads at the retracted stroke end instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing catastrophic drops in heavy machinery.

build

Press Clamp Safety

Maintains high-force clamping pressure mechanically at the rod-in position during power interruptions, ensuring workpieces remain secured.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Holds heavy safety gates and industrial barriers firmly in the closed position without consuming continuous pneumatic energy.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Selecting this 200mm bore provides maximum thrust, but if 10053N of push force at 0.5MPa is sufficient, the 160mm bore offers a lighter, more compact footprint. Choose the SAILB configuration when your application requires the load to be held at the rod-in position. If you need to secure the load at the extended rod-out position, the SAILF variant is required instead. For applications demanding mid-stroke clamping, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice, as the SAIL lock only engages at the stroke terminal.

The lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake, and only engages after the cylinder stops. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is recommended. For any safety-critical lifting application, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. This 350mm stroke model uses a PT 3/4 port, a 40mm carbon steel rod, and supports mountings like Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, TCM2. Given the 350mm stroke, ensure external guide rails are used to prevent excessive side-load wear on the rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350 FAQ

At a 0.5MPa operating pressure, the 200mm bore provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0MPa pressure, it achieves a push force of 3204 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover. It engages statically only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, holding the load without live air. It is not a mid-stroke clamp. Unlocking is done automatically via air supply or manually via a lever.
