Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 500mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500

The AirTAC SAILB200X500 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air drives a lock pin into the carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without relying on live pressure. In this 200mm bore class, the cylinder generates 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it suited for heavy-duty holding tasks.

This model features PT tapered port threads and operates at speeds between 30-500 mm/s. A key design trait is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter, measuring 28mm compared to the 50mm cushion on the free end. The lock itself is a static holding device that engages only after the piston stops at the stroke terminal, meaning it will not arrest a moving rod. For position detection, adding a -S magnet enables the use of AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Lift Power Failure Safety

Secures massive vertical loads in the retracted position automatically when compressed air is lost, preventing sudden drops in heavy machinery.

build

Press Clamp Retention

Holds a heavy press tool retracted at the stroke end without consuming continuous air pressure, maintaining a safe open state during material loading.

shield

Safety Gate Hold

Locks a substantial safety barrier in the closed retracted position, requiring an active air signal to the release port to open the gate.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200mm bore model when an application demands immense thrust, such as the 21991N push force achievable at 0.7 MPa, alongside fail-safe load holding at the retracted position. If the requirement is to hold the load at the extended rod-out position, the SAILF200X500 variant is the correct choice instead. If a process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder should be specified.

When integrating this cylinder, avoid using a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. Because human safety may depend on the load remaining up, always add an independent safety measure. For this 500mm stroke, ensure external guides are used to manage side loads. Replacement matches require a 200mm bore, 500mm stroke, back locker position, PT ports, and the full ISO 15552 mounting set including Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, and TCM2.

Quick checklist

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X500 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 200mm bore cylinder provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 21991N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the cylinder stops and can be unlocked automatically via air supply or manually. It does not clamp at mid-stroke.
