Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 80mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80S

The AirTAC SAILB200X80-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover. This built-in mechanism engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding a load of up to 15708 Newtons at 0.5 MPa without requiring live air pressure. A carbon steel rod and integrated magnet for CMSE or DMSE sensors come standard on this heavy-duty unit.

Because the lock physically clamps the rod at the terminal position, the variable air cushion at the locker end is engineered shorter (28 mm) than the free end cushion (50 mm). To disengage the lock, you simply supply air to the release port for automatic unlocking, or use the manual release lever. This static holding device engages only after the cylinder has fully stopped, rather than acting as a dynamic brake for a moving rod.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures heavy elevated platforms in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing gravity-driven drops without relying on continuous air pressure.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Holds heavy industrial safety gates firmly closed at the rod-in stroke end, requiring an active air signal to release the lock and open the barrier.

precision_manufacturing

Heavy Clamp Retention

Maintains massive clamping force on large fabricated components at the end of the stroke, ensuring the part stays fixtured even if the main air supply fluctuates.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200 mm bore model when a massive vertical load must be safely parked at the rod-in position; if your application requires holding at the extended rod-out position, select a SAILF front-locker variant instead. If the mechanism needs to clamp at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinders are the correct solution. For any safety-critical lifting scenario where human safety depends on the load staying up, always add an independent mechanical safety measure alongside this lock.

Valve selection is critical for proper lock operation: never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally lift the lock. Always specify an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. When replacing this unit, verify the 80 mm stroke, 3/4 PT tapered ports, back locker position, and the -S magnet option. Although the 80 mm stroke is short, the massive 40 mm rod demands rigid mounting to counteract side loads.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X80S FAQ

At a standard operating pressure of 0.5 MPa, this 200 mm bore cylinder provides a push force of 15708 Newtons and a pull force of 15080 Newtons. The maximum push force reaches 28274 Newtons at 0.9 MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake. You can unlock it automatically by supplying air to the release port, or manually via the release lever.
