Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X700

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X700 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø50mm bore, 700mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X700

The AirTAC SAILB50X700 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. A spring-applied, air-released locking pin engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the load without requiring live air pressure. Delivering 982N of push force and 825N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, it features a 20mm carbon steel rod with an M16x1.5 thread and a 1/4 PT port.

Because the locker occupies one end cover, the variable air cushion on that lock end is physically shorter at 20mm compared to the 30mm cushion on the free end. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the rod stops; it is not a dynamic brake for a moving piston. For automated unlocking, supply air to the release port, or use the manual release lever during maintenance.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa982 N825 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X700 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Retract Hold

Secures a lifted vertical load in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing sudden drops.

conveyor_belt

Conveyor Stop Arm

Holds a pneumatic stop gate firmly retracted out of the product flow path until air is restored.

shield

Safety Guard Hold

Locks a safety guard in the retracted open position, ensuring it stays clear until intentionally released.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X700 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 50mm bore when you need a step up in thrust from the 40mm bore, which provides 628N of push force at 0.5 MPa, but your space or port restrictions preclude the larger 63mm bore that offers 1559N. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be secured in the retracted position; choose a SAILF front-locker variant if the extended position must be held instead. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

With a 700mm stroke, this cylinder requires adequate side-load support to prevent premature seal wear; use a guide rail or external bearing to support the load. The lock holds statically at the retracted end, so never use a fast-exhaust valve with this model, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock—use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. If human safety depends on the load remaining retracted, add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement requires matching the 50mm bore, 700mm stroke, back locker position, PT port, and mounting style.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB50X700 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the 50mm bore provides 982N of push force and 825N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0 MPa pressure, it delivers a maximum push force equivalent to 200 kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake. Unlock automatically via the air release port or manually via the lever.
