Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200

The AirTAC SAILB63X200 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. A spring-applied, air-released mechanism engages a lock pin when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the rod without requiring live pressure. At 0.5 MPa, this 63mm bore unit generates 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force, making it highly effective for moderate-load holding tasks. The barrel is extruded aluminum with dual sensor grooves, and while no magnet is specified here, adding one enables compatibility with CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors.

This model features variable air cushions at both ends, but the locker-end cushion is notably shorter at 21mm compared to the 30mm cushion on the free end. The lock provides a static hold after the cylinder stops rather than acting as a dynamic brake for a moving rod. For unlocking, operators can supply air to the release port for automatic operation or utilize the manual release lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures elevated loads in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting jigs.

lock

Retracted Safety Hold

Locks a tooling carriage securely at the back stroke end during machine idle periods or emergency stop events.

conveyor_belt

Clamp and Hold at Rest

Maintains a gripper or clamp assembly firmly retracted at the stroke terminal without consuming continuous air supply.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore (3/8 port) cylinder when an application requires a reliable static hold at the retracted position without continuous air consumption. If your load demands less force, the 50mm bore offers 982N of push at 0.5 MPa; for heavier loads, the 80mm bore provides 2513N. Select the SAILB variant specifically when the rod-in position must be secured during power loss, and choose SAILF if the extended rod-out position requires holding. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

When integrating this SAILB63X200 model, avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. The carbon steel rod features an M16x1.5 thread. For replacement matching, verify the 200mm stroke, back locker position, PT tapered port threads, and the required mounting style (Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, or TCM2). If human safety depends on the load remaining suspended, always implement an independent mechanical safety measure alongside the lock.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200 FAQ

The 63mm bore generates 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force at 0.5 MPa. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 2182N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover. It engages a static hold only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. It does not clamp at mid-stroke. Unlocking is done automatically via air release or manually via a lever.
