Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X300

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X300 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 300mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X300

The AirTAC SAILB63X300 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air automatically drives a lock pin into the carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without requiring live pressure. Delivering 1559N of push force at 0.5MPa, it uses a 3/8 PT port and operates at speeds between 30-800mm/s.

A critical distinction is that this lock engages strictly at the stroke terminal, not at any arbitrary mid-stroke point; for intermediate clamping, the BSAI clamp-lock is required. Furthermore, the variable air cushion at the locker end is notably shorter at 21mm compared to the 30mm cushion on the free end, ensuring deceleration without interfering with the locking mechanism. The lock itself is a static holding device that engages only after the piston stops, rather than a dynamic brake for a moving rod.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X300 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Maintains a lifted payload securely at the retracted stroke end during a power loss event, preventing sudden drops.

lock

Retracted Safety Lock

Keeps a clamp or guard firmly pulled back and locked in the rod-in position until air is actively supplied to release it.

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stopper

Extends to halt a moving pallet, then retracts and locks in the safe open position to let product pass safely.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X300 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore when an application requires 1559N push force at 0.5MPa; if your load demands less force, stepping down to a 50mm bore yields 982N, while upgrading to an 80mm bore provides 2513N. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when you need the load held at the rod-in retracted position. Since this unit features a 300mm stroke, adding an external guide mechanism is highly recommended to prevent excessive side-load torque on the cylinder rod.

When integrating this cylinder, avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve instead. To unlock the rod, supply air to the release port or use the manual release lever. If human safety depends on the load remaining suspended, always add an independent safety measure. For drop-in replacements, match the 63mm bore, 300mm stroke, back locker position, PT port thread, and standard mounting options.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X300 FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 63mm bore cylinder generates 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0MPa pressure, it can deliver up to 318kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it engages automatically at the retracted stroke end when air is cut off. To unlock the rod, you must supply air to the release port or use the manual release lever. It is a static hold, not a mid-stroke clamp.
