Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 600mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600S

The AirTAC SAILB63X600-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, dropping the release air pressure instantly drives a pin into the rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without consuming live air. In the 63 mm bore class, it generates 1559 N of push thrust and 1402 N of pull thrust at 0.5 MPa.

This unit includes a magnet (-S) for position sensing with AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic switches. The extruded aluminum barrel incorporates sensor grooves on both sides, and the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter (21 mm) than the free end (30 mm) to accommodate the locking hardware. Unlocking is achieved automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Holding

Secures a raised vertical load in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing sudden drops without relying on continuous air pressure.

conveyor_belt

Conveyor Diverter Hold

Locks a diverter arm safely at the retracted stroke end to keep the conveyor path clear during maintenance or emergency stops.

shield

Safety Gate Retraction

Holds a safety gate firmly withdrawn at the back stroke terminal, ensuring the opening remains unobstructed until air is actively supplied to unlock.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63 mm bore when an application requires 1402 N of pull force at 0.5 MPa; step down to a 50 mm bore (825 N pull) for lighter loads, or up to an 80 mm bore (2268 N pull) for heavier demands. Select this SAILB configuration to hold the rod in the retracted position; choose a SAILF variant instead if the extended end must be secured. If the mechanism requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a terminal position, use an AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

The lock engages only after the piston stops at the retracted stroke end, functioning as a static holding device rather than a dynamic brake. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; always utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For any human-safety critical lifting scenario, add an independent mechanical safety measure. With a 600 mm stroke, guide the load externally to prevent excessive side-loading on the carbon steel rod. Replacement specifications require a 63 mm bore, 600 mm stroke, back locker, PT 3/8 port, and an -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X600S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, this 63 mm bore cylinder provides 1559 N of push thrust and 1402 N of pull thrust. At 0.7 MPa, the push thrust increases to 2182 N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, holding the rod securely at the retracted stroke end. It engages only after the cylinder stops and is not a mid-stroke clamp. Unlocking occurs automatically by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
