Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X80

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X80 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 80mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X80

The AirTAC SAILB63X80 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. A spring-applied, air-released lock pin engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the load without requiring live pressure. Delivering 1559N of push force at 0.5MPa, it features a carbon steel rod and a 3/8 PT port.

The lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake for moving rods. To ensure reliable operation, avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. The variable air cushion at the locker end is 21mm, intentionally shorter than the 30mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking mechanism.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X80 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds a raised vertical load securely at the retracted stroke end during a power loss, preventing sudden drops.

conveyor_belt

Conveyor Arrest

Locks a conveyor diverting arm in the retracted home position safely without consuming continuous air supply.

shield

Safety Gate Hold

Maintains a machine safety gate firmly closed and locked at the rod-in position until released by air.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X80 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore for loads requiring up to 1559N of push force at 0.5MPa. If your application needs less force, the 50mm bore offers 982N; if more power is needed, the 80mm bore provides 2513N. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be safely held at the retracted rod-in position. If you need to secure the load at the extended rod-out position, choose the SAILF variant instead.

For applications requiring the load to be clamped at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice. Always confirm the exact lock holding force from the datasheet for your specific load, and add an independent safety measure if human safety depends on the load staying up. Replacement requires matching the 63mm bore, 80mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port, and your mounting style.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X80 FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, the 63mm bore provides 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 2182N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod only at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the cylinder stops. Unlocking occurs automatically via air supply or manually via a lever, but it cannot clamp at a mid-stroke position.
