Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X900S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X900S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 900mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X900S

The AirTAC SAILB63X900-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. A spring-applied, air-released lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the 1402N pull load at 0.5MPa without requiring live air pressure. It includes a magnet for position sensing and uses standard carbon steel rod material with PT tapered ports.

Unlike a plain SAI cylinder, this SAIL model provides true power-loss safety, but only at the stroke terminal. The variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter at 21mm compared to 30mm on the free end. For unlocking, supply release air for automatic operation or use the manual override lever.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X900S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds a raised load securely at the retracted stroke end during a power loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting mechanisms.

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stopper

Locks the rod in the back position to hold a heavy pallet or workpiece in place without continuously consuming compressed air.

shield

Safety Gate Hold

Maintains a safety barrier in the closed position by mechanically locking the retracted rod until release air is supplied.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X900S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore to deliver 1559N push and 1402N pull force at 0.5MPa. If your application requires less force, step down to the 50mm bore offering 982N push, or move up to the 80mm bore for 2513N push. Select SAILB to hold the load retracted; choose SAILF if you need to secure the extended position. If you need to clamp the rod at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, use a BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

Because this is a 900mm stroke, add an external guide to prevent excessive side loads on the rod. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake. Do not use a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For human safety applications, add an independent safety measure. Replacement match: 63mm bore, 900mm stroke, back lock, PT ports, -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X900S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, this 63mm bore cylinder provides 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 2182N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end. It holds the load statically after the rod stops. To unlock, supply release air or use the manual lever. It does not clamp mid-stroke.
