Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 100mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100

The AirTAC SAILB80X100 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air automatically drives a lock pin into the carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without consuming live pressure. In this 80mm bore class, the cylinder generates 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force at 0.5 MPa.

Unlike a plain SAI cylinder, this model provides true power-failure safety, but it is designed as a static holding device rather than a dynamic brake that stops a moving rod. The lock engages only after the piston reaches the retracted terminal. For position sensing, you can add a magnet (-S) to use AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic solid-state sensors in the dual-side barrel grooves. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 22.5mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion at the free end to accommodate the locking hardware.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa2513 N2268 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds a retracted vertical load securely in place during a compressed air failure or power outage, preventing sudden drops.

shield

Machine Guard Hold

Maintains a safety guard in the closed, retracted position without requiring continuous air pressure to keep operators safe.

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stopper

Locks a stopper cylinder in the retracted terminal position to hold pallets securely on a conveyor line until the process advances.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 80mm bore when an application requires 2513N push force at 0.5 MPa; if your load demands less force, step down to a 63mm bore offering 1559N, or step up to a 100mm bore providing 3927N. Choose this SAILB configuration when the machinery must be held safely at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end during a power loss, and select a SAILF variant instead if the extended (rod-out) position requires holding. If your workflow demands locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke terminal, the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Remember that the SAIL lock is a static hold, not a mid-stroke clamp or dynamic brake. Valve selection is critical: never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For any safety-critical vertical lift where human safety depends on the load staying up, add an independent safety measure. Replacement matches require an 80mm bore, 100mm stroke, back locker position, PT tapered port threads, standard carbon steel rod, and any desired mounting from the ISO 15552 set (Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, TCM2).

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X100 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the 80mm bore provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover to hold the rod only at the retracted stroke end. It engages statically after the cylinder stops. You can unlock it automatically by supplying release air or manually via the release lever.
