Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X600S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X600S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 600mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X600S

The AirTAC SAILB80X600-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. This spring-applied, air-released lock engages automatically to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end, maintaining vertical loads without requiring continuous live air pressure. Equipped with a -S magnet, it supports position sensing via AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.

Providing 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force at 0.5MPa, this 80mm bore cylinder operates efficiently within a 30-800mm/s speed range. The variable air cushion at the locker end measures 22.5mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking mechanism. The standard carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads ensure robust performance and reliable sealing for demanding industrial environments.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X600S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Holding

Secures elevated platforms or lifting forks in the retracted position during power loss, preventing uncontrolled descent.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Maintains heavy safety gates or machine guards firmly closed and locked at the stroke end until pneumatic release air is supplied.

factory

Clamp and Hold Station

Drives a clamping mechanism to its retracted terminal position and mechanically locks it there to hold workpieces without continuous air consumption.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X600S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 80mm bore model when an application demands substantial holding power at the fully retracted position, offering 2513N push force at 0.5MPa. If your setup requires less force, the 63mm bore provides 1559N; for heavier loads, the 100mm bore offers 3927N. Choose SAILB for back-cover locking to hold the rod-in position; if the load must be secured at the extended rod-out position instead, select the SAILF variant. For applications requiring mid-stroke clamping at an arbitrary point rather than a stroke-end hold, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

Because the lock is a static holding device that engages only after the piston stops at the stroke terminal, it will not arrest a moving rod. Crucially, do not use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder; employ an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. For any safety-critical lifting application where human safety depends on the load remaining suspended, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. At 600mm stroke, use appropriate guide rails to prevent excessive side loads on the rod. Replacement units must match the 80mm bore, 600mm stroke, back locker position, PT ports, and -S magnet configuration.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X600S FAQ

At an operating pressure of 0.5MPa, the 80mm bore provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The spring-applied, air-released lock is located in the back cover and holds the rod statically at the retracted stroke end. It engages after the cylinder stops and unlocks automatically via pneumatic release air or manually via a lever. It does not clamp at mid-stroke or act as a dynamic brake.
