Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 800mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800

The AirTAC SAILB80X800 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air drives a lock pin into the 25mm carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without relying on live pressure. This 80mm bore generates 2513N of push force at 0.5MPa, making it highly capable for heavy-duty positioning tasks.

To accommodate the locking hardware, the variable air cushion at the locker end is 22.5mm, which is intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end. The unit operates at speeds of 30-800mm/s, uses a 3/8 PT port, and offers automatic pneumatic unlocking alongside a manual release lever for maximum operational flexibility.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds heavy elevated platforms securely in the retracted position instantly upon air pressure loss, preventing accidental descent.

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stop Gate

Locks a raised diverter gate at the stroke end to halt pallets, maintaining position without continuously consuming compressed air.

factory

Press Hold Position

Secures a press ram at the top of its stroke end during tool changes or material loading, ensuring zero drift.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore when a 63mm cylinder (providing 1559N push at 0.5MPa) lacks the thrust for your vertical load, but a 100mm bore (3927N at 0.5MPa) would be excessive. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when the machinery must be safely held in the retracted position during a power loss. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

This model features an 800mm stroke, which exceeds the 1500mm maximum standard stroke for an 80mm bore, making it a non-standard build that requires a side-load guide to prevent rod damage over such a long extension. Remember that the lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock, and always add an independent safety measure if human safety depends on the load staying up. Replacement matches require an 80mm bore, 800mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port, and standard carbon steel rod.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800 FAQ

The 80mm bore generates 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force at 0.5MPa. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold only at this stroke end, not mid-stroke. Unlocking is done automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the release lever.
