Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X900

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X900 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 900mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X900

The AirTAC SAILB80X900 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This locking mechanism securely holds the rod at the retracted stroke end without requiring continuous live air pressure. Within the 80mm bore class, it generates 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it well-suited for heavy vertical load management.

A standout design trait is the shorter variable air cushion on the locker end (22.5mm) compared to the free end (36mm), which accommodates the locking hardware. The cylinder operates at speeds of 30-800 mm/s and uses a 3/8 PT port. For position sensing, the barrel includes dual sensor grooves, ready to accept AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE solid-state switches if a magnet is specified separately.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds elevated platforms securely in the retracted position during power loss, preventing sudden drops.

conveyor_belt

Heavy Conveyor Stop

Locks a heavy product stopper in the rod-in position to hold bulk materials on a line without consuming air.

Gate Holding

Secures heavy loading dock gates in the closed retracted state, relying on the mechanical lock rather than live pressure.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X900 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore when an application demands robust load-holding at the rod-in position; stepping down to a 63mm bore drops the 0.5 MPa push force to 1559N. If the load must be held at the extended rod-out position, select the SAILF variant instead. For applications requiring mid-stroke clamping at any arbitrary point, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice, as the SAIL lock only engages statically at the stroke terminal.

Because this model features a 900mm stroke—exceeding typical standard lengths—incorporating an external linear guide is strongly recommended to prevent excessive side-load wear on the cylinder seals. Remember that this lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. For human-safety-critical suspended loads, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement matches require an 80mm bore, 900mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port, and appropriate mounting from the ISO 15552 set (Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, TCM2).

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X900 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the 80mm bore provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the back cover. It engages statically only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. It is unlocked automatically by supplying release air or manually via the release lever. It does not clamp at mid-stroke.
