Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 225mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225S

The AirTAC SAILF100X225-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the front cover. Because this is a SAILF variant, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, securely holding the rod-out position without requiring live air pressure. The 100mm bore generates 5497N of push force at 0.7MPa, making it suited for heavy load manipulation. Equipped with a magnet, it supports electronic DMSE and reed CMSE sensors for precise position feedback.

This model features a 25mm carbon steel rod and a 1/2-inch PT port. A key design trait of this locking cylinder is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 24mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end. The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops; it is not a dynamic brake for a moving rod.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Gate and Lift Control

Keeps heavy industrial gates or lifting platforms safely locked in the open position until a release signal is sent.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 100mm bore cylinder when an application requires holding a load securely at the extended stroke end during a power loss. If your load demands less force, stepping down to an 80mm bore provides 3518N of push force at 0.7MPa. Conversely, if you need to hold the rod in the retracted position, select the SAILB variant instead. For applications requiring the load to be clamped at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

When integrating this model, remember that the lock holds only at the front stroke terminal. Avoid using a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. If human safety depends on the load remaining extended, add an independent safety measure. To replace this unit, match the 100mm bore, 225mm stroke, front locker position, 1/2-inch PT port, and the -S magnet option.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225S FAQ

At 0.7MPa, this 100mm bore cylinder provides 5497N of push force and 3681N of pull force. The maximum operating pressure is 1.0MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically at the extended stroke end after the rod stops. It unlocks automatically via air supply or manually via a lever, but it does not clamp at mid-stroke.
