About the Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X700SCA

The AirTAC SC40X700SCA is a double-acting single-rod pneumatic cylinder delivering 628 N of push force at 0.5 MPa (1130 N at 0.9 MPa). With a 40 mm bore and 700 mm stroke, it uses a 16 mm diameter piston rod and PT1/4 ports, making it a capable mid-range actuator for linear motion tasks.

This model includes a built-in magnet (-S) for direct mounting of CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors, and a rear single clevis mount (CA) for pivoting applications. The total extended body length is approximately 842 mm (body length A of 142 mm + 700 mm stroke), with an adjustable air cushion of 21 mm at each end to decelerate the piston smoothly.

Where the Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X700SCA Is Used

conveyor_belt

Conveyor Diverter Gates

The 700 mm stroke and rear clevis mount allow this cylinder to pivot a diverter gate on a packaging or sorting conveyor, directing products between lanes with the 628 N push force at standard line pressure.

precision_manufacturing

Pivoting Clamp Arms

With the CA rear clevis, the cylinder body can swing as it extends, ideal for actuating a pivoting clamp or hold-down arm on a welding or assembly fixture, using the full 700 mm reach.

agriculture

Hopper or Chute Actuation

Controls a large hopper door or directional chute on agricultural processing equipment. The magnet allows end-of-stroke sensors to confirm full open/close positions in dusty environments.

Is the Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X700SCA the Right Cylinder?

The SC40X700SCA suits applications needing the 628 N force class of a 40 mm bore. If your load requires more force, stepping up to a 50 mm bore (SC50) provides 982 N at 0.5 MPa. For lighter, faster cycles, a 32 mm bore (402 N) may be a better fit. At 700 mm stroke, the 16 mm rod is unsupported beyond the front bearing; any side load will cause bending and premature seal wear. Use an external linear guide or a guided cylinder to absorb transverse forces and protect the rod.

For direct replacement, match these five points: 40 mm bore, 700 mm stroke, PT1/4 port thread, rear single clevis mounting (CA, using bracket F-SC40CA), and the built-in magnet (-S) for sensor compatibility.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Required force at your working pressure
  • ✓ Stroke and mounting space
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/NPT/G)
  • ✓ Magnet (-S) for sensors?
  • ✓ Side load — consider a guided cylinder

Installation & Maintenance Notes

  • check Use clean air filtered to 40µm or finer.
  • check Keep within 0.15 – 1.0 MPa operating pressure.
  • check Avoid side load on the piston rod.
  • check Adjust end cushion screws for smooth stops.
  • check Use correct mounting accessory (FA/FB/CA/CB/LB/TC).
  • check Installation by qualified personnel per AirTAC docs.

Airtac SC40 Standard Cylinder SC40X700SCA FAQ

At the standard operating pressure of 0.5 MPa, the push force is 628 N and the pull force is 528 N. At the maximum operating pressure of 0.9 MPa, the push force increases to 1130 N. The theoretical maximum force at 1.0 MPa is 128 kgf.

It is a direct replacement for an AirTAC SC40X700SCA or a tie-rod cylinder with identical specifications: 40 mm bore, 700 mm stroke, PT1/4 ports, rear single clevis (CA) mount, and a built-in magnet for sensors. It is not dimensionally interchangeable with ISO 15552 profile cylinders.
