This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is SAUD40X60 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the SAUD40X60 in place of this model. The SAU replacement uses the same profile body, bore, stroke, force and SC-series mounting. It moves to the current CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensor switches (the SU used CS1-B / DS1-B) and adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.

The AirTAC Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X60 is a double-acting profile-type standard cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 60mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and adjustable end cushioning. This model is discontinued — the drop-in replacement is the SAUD40X60, which matches its bore, stroke, force and mounting.
The AirTAC SUD40X60 is a double-acting, double-rod profile cylinder featuring a 40mm bore and 60mm stroke. A rod exits both ends on a single piston, meaning both faces use the rod-side area and push/pull force is equal both ways at 528N @0.5 MPa, 739N @0.7 MPa, and 950N @0.9 MPa. The extruded aluminium profile barrel is shorter than an ISO 15552 cylinder of the same bore. This model is discontinued and the exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD40X60, retaining the 1/4" port, M12x1.25 rod thread, and 21mm adjustable air cushions.
Because the second rod prevents piston rotation and can drive a second tool simultaneously, double-rod architecture is highly stable. For this non-magnetic SKU, external reed switches cannot be fitted, though the SAUD upgrade accepts current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors instead of the legacy CS1-B/DS1-B. Based on the 528N @0.5 MPa figure, the computed safe working load is roughly 317N, and it can vertically lift approximately 27kg with a 2:1 margin. Note that air cushions only decelerate near stroke end; an external rod lock is required to hold loads on air loss.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC SU datasheet (now discontinued). The SAUD40X60 carries the same ratings. Confirm against the product label before installation. Thread options: PT / G / NPT.

The SAUD40X60 produces the same force from the same bore — a true drop-in on output. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Legacy SU-family variants: SUD (double rod), SUJ (adjustable stroke) — each maps to its SAU equivalent (SUD→SAUD, SUJ→SAUJ). The current SAU line adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.
Equal both-ways force allows a conveyor transfer pusher to extend and retract with identical 528N @0.5 MPa power, driving parts consistently.
The second protruding rod can drive an auxiliary tool simultaneously, performing two mirrored machining operations on a single workpiece.
By exiting both ends, the rod prevents piston rotation, providing stable guidance for vertical lifting fixtures up to 27kg with a 2:1 margin.
To replace the discontinued SUD40X60, specify the SAUD40X60 drop-in: it matches the 40mm bore, 60mm stroke, equal both-ways force, 1/4" port, and Basic/FA/LB mounting. When sizing both ways, compare neighbouring bores (32mm or 50mm) to ensure the equal push/pull force meets your requirement. A double rod is right when you need anti-rotation stability or a back rod to carry a sensor cam. This SKU lacks a magnet and cannot take switches; the SAUD upgrade uses CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors. For strokes >=300mm, verify the side-load line to prevent guide wear. Mounting is compatible with the AirTAC SC series only.
Replacement checklist
Yes, the SUD40X60 is discontinued. The exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD40X60, which matches the 40mm bore, 60mm stroke, 1/4" port, and FA/LB mounting.
The double-rod design provides equal force both ways: 528N @0.5 MPa, 739N @0.7 MPa, and 950N @0.9 MPa. The air port is 1/4" and the rod thread is M12x1.25.
