This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is SAUD63X55 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the SAUD63X55 in place of this model. The SAU replacement uses the same profile body, bore, stroke, force and SC-series mounting. It moves to the current CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensor switches (the SU used CS1-B / DS1-B) and adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.

The AirTAC Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD63X55 is a double-acting profile-type standard cylinder with a Ø63mm bore and 55mm stroke, 3/8" air ports and adjustable end cushioning. This model is discontinued — the drop-in replacement is the SAUD63X55, which matches its bore, stroke, force and mounting.
The AirTAC SUD63X55 is a double-acting, double-rod profile cylinder featuring a 63mm bore and 55mm stroke. Because a rod exits both ends on one piston, push and pull force are equal at 1402 N @0.5 MPa, 1962 N @0.7 MPa, and 2523 N @0.9 MPa. This discontinued model is fully replaced by the drop-in SAUD63X55, which matches the 3/8" port, M16x1.5 rod thread, and 21mm cushions. The extruded aluminum barrel is shorter than an ISO 15552 cylinder of the same bore.
The double-rod design provides anti-rotation stability and lets the back rod carry a sensor cam or drive two tools simultaneously. For the SAUD upgrade, legacy CS1-B/DS1-B sensors are replaced by current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG switches; however, this specific non-magnetic SKU cannot take a switch. Based on the 1402 N @0.5 MPa output, the safe working load is ~841 N (60%), yielding a vertical lift capacity of ~71 kg with a 2:1 margin. Note that air cushions only decelerate near stroke end; an external rod lock is required for load holding.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC SU datasheet (now discontinued). The SAUD63X55 carries the same ratings. Confirm against the product label before installation. Thread options: PT / G / NPT.

The SAUD63X55 produces the same force from the same bore — a true drop-in on output. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Legacy SU-family variants: SUD (double rod), SUJ (adjustable stroke) — each maps to its SAU equivalent (SUD→SAUD, SUJ→SAUJ). The current SAU line adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.
Drives two opposing machining heads simultaneously from a single piston, ensuring perfectly synchronized cutting cycles using its equal both-ways force.
Uses the twin rods exiting both ends to prevent mechanical twist during rapid part diversion on a 63mm bore packaging line.
Handles balanced material routing by pushing a workpiece one way and pulling the return fixture back with identical 1402 N @0.5 MPa thrust.
To replace the discontinued SUD63X55, drop in the SAUD63X55 to retain the exact 63mm bore, 55mm stroke, equal-both-ways force, 3/8" port, and FA/LB mounting. Size both directions by checking the 1402 N @0.5 MPa output against neighbor bores (50mm yields 825 N, 80mm yields 2268 N) to ensure your application has sufficient push and pull thrust. Choose a double-rod cylinder when you need anti-rotation stability or must drive two tools from one piston. If upgrading sensing, note that legacy CS1-B/DS1-B switches are replaced by CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors on the SAUD, though this non-magnetic SKU cannot accept them. For strokes >=300mm, verify side-load limits to prevent guide wear. Remember, the air cushion only decelerates the piston; use an external rod lock or pilot-operated check valve for load holding.
Replacement checklist
Yes, the AirTAC SUD63X55 is discontinued. The exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD63X55, which matches the 63mm bore, 55mm stroke, 3/8" port, and FA/LB mounting. The SAUD also offers the SAUF built-in-valve variant the SU line lacked.
Because it is a double-rod cylinder, force is equal both ways: 1402 N @0.5 MPa, 1962 N @0.7 MPa, and 2523 N @0.9 MPa. The air port is 3/8", the rod is Ø20mm with an M16x1.5 thread, and it has 21mm adjustable cushions at each end.
