This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is SAUD80X50 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the SAUD80X50 in place of this model. The SAU replacement uses the same profile body, bore, stroke, force and SC-series mounting. It moves to the current CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensor switches (the SU used CS1-B / DS1-B) and adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.

The AirTAC Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD80X50 is a double-acting profile-type standard cylinder with a Ø80mm bore and 50mm stroke, 3/8" air ports and adjustable end cushioning. This model is discontinued — the drop-in replacement is the SAUD80X50, which matches its bore, stroke, force and mounting.
The AirTAC SUD80X50 is a double-acting, double-rod profile cylinder featuring an extruded aluminium barrel that is shorter than a standard ISO 15552 unit of the same bore. Because a rod exits both ends on a single piston, both faces use the rod-side area, meaning push and pull force are equal at 2268 N @0.5 MPa, 3175 N @0.7 MPa, and 4082 N @0.9 MPa. This SUD model is discontinued; the exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD80X50, retaining the 80mm bore, 50mm stroke, 3/8" port, and FA/LB mounting compatibility with the AirTAC SC series.
The dual-rod design provides excellent anti-rotation stability and allows the back rod to drive a second tool or mechanism simultaneously. For sizing, the 2268 N @0.5 MPa force yields a safe working load of roughly 1361 N (about 60 percent of capacity) and a vertical lift capability of approximately 116 kg with a 2:1 safety margin. Note this SKU lacks a magnet (-S) and cannot accept magnetic switches; furthermore, the air cushions only decelerate the piston near stroke end and do not hold loads on air loss, requiring an external rod lock for vertical load holding.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC SU datasheet (now discontinued). The SAUD80X50 carries the same ratings. Confirm against the product label before installation. Thread options: PT / G / NPT.

The SAUD80X50 produces the same force from the same bore — a true drop-in on output. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical; size with a margin.

Legacy SU-family variants: SUD (double rod), SUJ (adjustable stroke) — each maps to its SAU equivalent (SUD→SAUD, SUJ→SAUJ). The current SAU line adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.
Drives two separate workstations simultaneously using both protruding rods, ensuring perfectly matched timing without adding a second cylinder.
Lifts and lowers heavy vertical platforms up to 116 kg while the twin rods prevent rotational drift that would jam standard single-rod assemblies.
Powers transfer arms on packaging lines where the extended rear rod actuates a diverter or sensor cam on the return cycle.
To replace the discontinued SUD80X50, order the SAUD80X50 drop-in equivalent, which matches the 80mm bore, 50mm stroke, 3/8" port, and FA/LB mounting. When sizing both ways, verify the equal push/pull force of 2268 N @0.5 MPa meets your requirement, or step to neighbouring bores (63mm or 100mm) if you need less or more power. A double-rod cylinder is the right choice when you need anti-rotation resistance, equal force in both directions, or a back rod to drive a secondary mechanism. Because this non-magnetic SKU cannot take sensors, the SAUD upgrade path uses current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors instead of the legacy CS1-B/DS1-B. For strokes >=300mm, carefully manage side-load alignment to prevent guide wear.
Replacement checklist
Yes, the SUD80X50 is discontinued. The exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD80X50, which shares the same 80mm bore, 50mm stroke, 3/8" port, and FA/LB mounting. The SAUD family also supports current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors and offers the SAUF built-in-valve variant.
Because it is a double-rod cylinder, force is equal both ways: 2268 N @0.5 MPa, 3175 N @0.7 MPa, and 4082 N @0.9 MPa. The air port is 3/8" (PT thread), the piston rod is Ø25 mm with an M20x1.5 thread, and it includes 28 mm adjustable air cushions at each end.
